We’ll never know what restructure the Cards offered Matthieu. That said, it’s entirely possible than Tyrann will get a bigger contract on the open market from a team with no overhang than he could get from the Cards.
Based on his play the passed few years I can’t see any team giving him a bigger contract. If they do they will end up releasing him after a year when they realize he no longer has elite skills.

To me he owes this team. He got paid a lot of money and didn’t earn half of it.

So, you're basing your hate on a most likely fake quote from TM? He played a full season last year and stayed healthy...and played the most snaps in the NFL. He may no longer be electric, but he puts it all out there, plays hard and has become a leader on the team.

Time for the Badger to start caring... past his ego :)

I like him but his star faded fast because of injury. I hate to see him go because I love his heart but his skills just aren't there anymore. Of course, knowing our luck, we'll cut him, he'll go somewhere else and become an all pro.

Right? He’s totally going to be the next Vanderbilt Bosh.

And yet I still think you have to cut him at that salary. The risk is too great he never gets back to be worth that contract.

Did i say i hated him.I said good riddance and basically don`t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.I don`t give a flying F*** how many snaps he played. He was a liability in coverage and he costs the team way too much money for what he brings to the team.If that offends you then so be it.

I said earlier it was hard to envision them paying him. The best outcome is if he looks around and finds no one will pay him that old contract. Then if he’s really the guy he says he is maybe he’ll swallow his pride and return if the Cards offer a competitive salary.

For the money we are paying him, he is not required to be electric but a whole freaking power plant

Again, you have no idea what they’re proposing. They could get a pretty good extension done with him while taking away no money and just removing the 2019 guarantee. But I think that Matthieu will get $8M per year or more on the open market from someone who doesn’t have to account for his extension.

I don’t understand why people are pissed at Matthieu for signing a dumb contract that Keim put in front of him. No one is pissed at Keim for not paying David Johnson more in his first two seasons.

This is why pro athletes don't like fans
Seriously. Imagine if you got laid off at work and thousands of people you'd never met went out of their way to tell you that you were a bum and that you got paid too much for the amount of money the company offered to pay you.

Sports are the one rare instance where people seem to think you should walk in and offer to take less money for the good of the company. Imagine it. "Solar, we're happy to bring you on board for $75,000." Should I reply, "Ah, nah, that isn't fair to you guys... let's cut this down to $45,000 so our department can hire someone else too?"

Would hate to see him leave... him and branch or baker make for a good safety combi...

Grant t m hasn't been same since injury but he is probably better than fa or rookie and he still can make plays and I like his game day attitude!

Hope cards find a way to make him stay.

If Keim wasn’t dumb enough to give the Badger that huge payday right after that knee injury this story might have a different ending imo. Who knows, but I do know he sure does seem to struggle in m2m these days.

The Cards were loyal to him in bad times & now he’s not willing to reciprocate...time to move on.

The only people who get paid in the same ballpark as athletes are Fortune 500 CEOs and they get criticized all the time on CNBC or the Wall st journal. People say they are overpaid and should hit the bricks. If I had that money people can say whatever they want about me.

That’s Keim’s fault, not Ty’s.

Keim's fault but not in the team's best interest to keep him now regardless. I am a Cardinal fan, he is known and still rich through this thing called football. I wish the guy the best but I am not going to take his side on two wrongs make a right. Dude cannot cover like he used to at all, he is a luxury piece we cannot afford to pay at his current production of being a line of scrimmage rover. I am for a restructure but I do not know if his pride will allot that... I hope so, but when you are on a team with one goal, I cannot sympathize with the individual over his current situation

Larry Fitz did in 2015, signed a new multi-year contract and gave us $13 mil in cap space.

I wonder if ARZ is reconsidering making a run at Cousins after his run in with Larry. Maybe ARZ feels they need the TM money to add to their offer to Cousins?

I love HB....I wish him well, But since his injuries, He's become so over-payed.

He has to take a massive pay-cut, or move on..... He can still bring a nasty blitz, but he is a massive liability in coverage.

Not even close to being worth what he's being paid.

After a few moments of reflection, I don't think he's worth even half his current salary...and we all know that will never happen.... so go get paid HB...... I want a safety who can play full-steam...... AND cover.

I blame Keim and Bidwill if he was involved in the contract negotiations. I'm not sure any other team would have offered a player coming off of a second ACL tear the kind of contract the Cardinals offered HB. They should have waited one more year to see how his performance was before talking a new contract. As it is now, it has come back to bite them in the ass. Maybe their medical staff is partly to blame for this and they were told he will be the same old Badger despite the ACL tear. I get showing some loyalty to a player but they also need to be real about what the odds were he would still be the HB after the injuries as before.

I can assure you that Fitzgerald did not get a single penny less than what his previous contract offered him. In fact, he got even more money with the new contract. It was just structured in a way to give the Cardinals some salary cap relief. It’s just a technical procedure. What Solar wrote about was a regular pay cut.

Also, it’s probably worth keeping in mind that Fitzgerald had made millions before signing that contract. He probably didn’t really care how it was structured.

Yep. It's great when the team's showing you loyalty, but when you won't restructure to help the team, loyalty strangely goes out the window.

The Cards received #1 round talent for #3 round cost. Everything else is PR.

If the Cards refuse to abide by the contract they negotiated and the Badger signed in good faith, then this split is on them.

Find creative ways to ensure that he at least has a reasonable opportunity to bank this deal and I'll bet that cooler minds will prevail.

But, if the Cards are into a straight cut, supported by all this guilt crap, then he'll walk and be out of work for a week at most.

When Keim extended him, there was a lot of agreement within the org. and in the media/fandom to do so. These things don't happen in a vacuum. Funny fickle fans forget how much they wanted this a done deal at the time it was NEGOTIATED.

YES, now it needs to be RENEG'd. Of no fault of either, but a reality. ;)

Thanks for covering, Gandhi, that was going to be my argument too.

Not to mention, Fitz is also at the point of his career where he makes a ton of additional money in sponsorship deals. Ty isn't at that level right now.

If they cut TM his cap hit goes from $14m to $28m according to spotrac.com. I assume if they designate post June 1 his cap hit is still $14m this and next year?
