The Dallas Morning News football writer and incredibly accurate draft predictor Rick Gosselin has Joe Thomas falling us to #5 in spite of Oakland passing on Jamarcus Russell. Would Al Davis really pass on a franchise QB two years in a row?

Interesting that he has Levi Brown falling all the way to the NY Football Giants at the 20th pick and Pittsburgh taking Auburn guard Ben Grubbs at #15.

Also he has an unprecedented FOUR safeties being drafted in the first round: Laron Landry at #6 by Washington, Reggie Nelson at #17 by Jacksonville, Michael Griffin at #22 by Dallas, and Brandon Meriweather at #28 by New England.

I just don't see the Bucs taking Peterson with Caddy on the roster there, and as much as Gruden loves Caddy. I wouldn't be surprised if they took Quinn there at 4 if the draft went down like that, but not AP. In that scenario, we'd have both AP and Thomas to choose from.

And then the big decision has to be made ..

I have to lean toward a tackle since we have Edge on the roster already and if we don't get a tackle it won't matter who we have running because there won't be any holes to run through ...

Even AP will not be able to run if Ross is blocking for him .. and I use that term loosely with Ross ..

Why not get Thomas, and draft someone like Michael Bush in the 3rd?

I'd be shocked if the Pats took Merriwether, since he's such a character risk. I wouldn't be surprised to see 4 safeties go in the first round of this draft, and some 9 total defensive backs.

Gosselin is great having the mock the day before or morning of because he says too many sites rip him off. He has got the best inside contacts in the NFL.

Oh, c'mon, the once-in-a-generation talent was Bush; that means there are no more till the next generation, so AP is sure to be a dud. I seem to recall that Fitz was to be a legend in his own time, and now we have Johnson, whose numbers are indeed better. There was Shockey, and then there was Davis. I think Thomas had that tag for a while, too. We have to keep on chanting, "This is hype, no NFL track record."

And then we tilt the board a little to reflect need, and we reflect on AP's injury risk, and we think back to the many skill people thwarted by our OL, and we can only go with Thomas.

In my opinion, Tampa would be wise to draft Peterson and trade him a few picks later, especially to Buffalo is Willis is off the board when they pick.

Why? Two months ago they were very interested in trading for Moss.

I think the feeling is that AD is a once-in-a-generation talent.
They say that every year at draft time. Two years ago Cadilac was the best to come around in the past ten years. Last year Bush was inducted into the HOF practically before even taking a snap in the NFL. This year its AP next year it's McFadden that's once in a generation back.

This is the second time I've seen someone refer to Peterson as AD, am I missing something or are his initials AP, or is this his nickname. Either Michale Bush this year or Darren McFadden next year is what I am hoping for. O Line is the problem everyone knows it, why not fix the problem.

Petersons nickname is AD, which stands for "all day".

The only thing that I really, really hope is that, if we take Thomas (which would be the most logical move) we won't be sitting around here three years from now watching AD in honolulu, while thomas has to battle just to be the cardinal's starter at LT.

Peterson will be an All-Pro, whether Thomas gets there remains to be seen.

If we somehow lucked into Michael Bush in the third round or even later (no freaking way) we are gold for YEARS. Dude is awesome, and very NFL ready. His injuries will make him slide, slide slide.

You don't think his injuries will have an effect on his career? I don't know much about what happened to him but I do know that before the season he was being talked about as a possible Heisman candidate...that would be an interesting pick.

My feeling exactly. If we really are looking for a RB in the draft AP is not the only answer.

Yes there are other RB's but not with the potential of Peterson. Some compare him to Barry Sanders. No one out there compares with him as a RB.

I would be pleased with either Thomas or Peterson. I think Peterson makes a more immediate impact. It may take Thomas 1-2 years to make an impact. Sort of gets down to how fast you want to impact the team.

It may not be so easy to get Thomas ...

Bucs on the clock

April 23
St. Petersburg Times: "If the Bucs fail in their efforts to draft Georgia Tech receiver Calvin Johnson, Joe Thomas is a logical next option."

Hard-Working Thomas wows Marinelli

April 23
Detroit Free Press: "Joe Thomas has the football character Rod Marinelli wants. Marinelli knows it. And Thomas knows he knows it."

First job to tackle at the draft? Finding an O-Line cornerstone

April 23
South Florida Sun-Sentinel: "The Dolphins must address the quarterback spot? Sure. They must address left tackle too. Maybe first... That could mean sliding up for Wisconsin's Joe Thomas. Or staying put and taking Penn State's Levi Brown.."

He broke his leg, so in time it should heal fully. He didn't suffer any ligament damage, I don't think. Unfortunate for him, fortunate for the team that gets him.

The doctor just put a rod in his leg in the second surgery. I liked him before but wouldn't touch him now.
