Here's how attractive it is:

Andy Reid- supposed to interview, named by Mikey in the presser as a candidate, reported a 95% done deal==never interviews takes first offer in KC.

Mike McCoy- interviews and is reported the leading candidate and Cards target. Takes first offer after 1 interview in SD.

Todd Haley- long rumored Mikey favorite. Fights allegations that he interviewed. Seems like he would rather be OC in Pittsburgh than HC in AZ.

Cards never even talk to college coaches Chip Kelly or Doug Marrone.

The only coach who has shown interest and WANTS the job is Horton. But he'd take any HC job so that's not saying a whole lot. It's obvious the Cards want an offensive minded coach, so, other than Haley, what scrap heap candidates are out there for them to look at. Maybe thesmel is right and Jim Tresssel gets named :D.

Marc Trestman, lets get the old band back together. Maybe he can pull Dave Brown out of retirement.

It isn't very attractive and we as fans have to understand this. A injury plagued QB with a high cap figure. Two injury prone RBs. An offensive line where the worst players have the highest cap numbers and cost money to cut. A disgruntled DT. A high number of defensive FAs. A defensive staff that is forced on you. Very little cap room to make significant changes.

Not great.

Plus a guy who was a big part of the roster was just promoted to GM. Fire the HC, promote everyone else. That seems the Cardinal way.

Yep, but if you complain about it, you are a bad fan, and should be gotten rid of.

So, pretty much, if you talk honestly about the Cardinals, you are a bad fan.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With Mike McCoy off the market ?

Give me Ray Horton as the head coach, and sign Mike Mularkey.

That would be my move if I were running the show.

Jay Gruden ? Eh. I could get behind that move, yet as I said Horton is my choice.

Please, Cardinals, do not hire Haley!!!

Chopper, that was a very good synopsis of what is the problems that MB is facing when trying to bring in a new coach. Some of them I had not particularly considered. So thanks for the insight. Almost seems like the days when we were trying to get Dennis Green in here.

No one wants this job. Right now it is a race to see which position gets filled first:

Jets GM

Cards HC

It is the most depressing coaching search that the Cardinals have done that I can remember. :(

Here is my actual summary as I posted on another thread.

We eliminated college candidates because we wouldn't allow them to bring on their entire staff (defensive) which most coaches want.

We eliminated most proven head coaching candidates because Bidwill doesn't want to give the head coach the type of control Whis had.

So we are left bidding on NFL coordinators who are looking for rosters they can hit the ground running with, which we don't have. Looking for cap room to reshape the roster, which we don't have. Who have limited options to bring in coordinators because most of their associates are blocked by the teams they are leaving which we place a priority on.

That is the reality of our head coaching search.

This used to be the mentality, but not anymore. Look, most coaches maybe get 2 years. In your first shot as a head coach where you have limited coordinator options, are installing a new system, and have to rotate out players who don't fit, you NEED the best opportunity to successful. It is ridiculous to think SMART head coaching prospects will not consider this.

You know what this position is good for? Leverage.

Agents have twice now used an impending trip to AZ as leverage to get teams to pony up more cash before their client leaves town.

No one really wants to come here. Just don't tell the rest of the league. Agents are making a mint at our expense.

I think RC Slocum and John Mackovic are available. Weren't they both past Cards candidates?

ACtually, the Cardinals job when Denny Green got here was super-inviting. We had a TON of cap room (remember, that year we had to extend guys like L.J. Shelton and Raynoch Thompson in October just to reach the minimum spending level), a Top 3 pick in a quarterback-rich draft (Manning, Roethlisberger, and Rivers), an offensive line made up of highly drafted veteran players and free agents, and a upcoming stadium creating a ton of buzz and two years to build to a home Super Bowl appearance.

Even when Whis was hired, we had a young quarterback prospect on the roster, a high draft pick, a veteran former MVP quarterback, a borderline Hall of Fame running back, and a developed veteran draft class under contract.

Now, all we have to offer is basically Larry Fitzgerald. :sigh:

I hear that Madden guy might be interested in getting back into coaching. Let's keep swinging for the fences, Mikey!

Probably accurate. And this entire fiasco in the name of "due dilligence." I hope I am wrong but we seem to have stepped back to the Dave McGinnis days.

That's not fair. Teams are still playing ball. I don't understand what the hurry is to name a coaching staff. The big-name guys who are going to want personnel authority and want to be at the Senior Bowl, etc. are already taken, anyway. Again, I'd rather make headlines in December than February/March/April. Teams that make a ton of noise in March are rarely doing so in early January (just ask Eagles fans).

Scouting operations continue. Keim and Licht are going to be driving the offseason plan, and they're already in place. The only real issue I would see is if Michael Bidwill & Co. are drawing this process out in the hopes that Whis and his staff are hired elsewhere only so that we can have a clear budget savings on our own assistants.
