That's not fair. Teams are still playing ball. I don't understand what the hurry is to name a coaching staff. The big-name guys who are going to want personnel authority and want to be at the Senior Bowl, etc. are already taken, anyway. Again, I'd rather make headlines in December than February/March/April. Teams that make a ton of noise in March are rarely doing so in early January (just ask Eagles fans).

Scouting operations continue. Keim and Licht are going to be driving the offseason plan, and they're already in place. The only real issue I would see is if Michael Bidwill & Co. are drawing this process out in the hopes that Whis and his staff are hired elsewhere only so that we can have a clear budget savings on our own assistants.

The issue I have is not having a plan. It isn't news that there were limited coaching options on the market after firing Whis. More than that, despite saying we would be giving the process it's "due dilligence" we have created a situation that has ELIMINATED potential candidates, for better or worse. We have limited our options in the college ranks due to holding onto our defensive staff. We have limited our options with candidates who have proven NFL success because we don't want to give our head coach so much power. We sniff after Andy Reid, he gets hired alsewhere. We sniff after Mike McCoy, he chooses to go somewhere else. Anyway you cut it, we will have a new system in place and a head coach OR offensive coordinator who will have to START evaluating the roster to see what fits with the vision going forward. We are less than 2 weeks away from the Senior Bowl, 5 weeks away from the combine, and 7 weeks away from free agency. It is not a good thing to not have a staff in place when these functions occur.

I'm just not sure that hiring Andy Reid or Mike McCoy or whomever is a superior option to seeing what continues to come up or out. As I said, the personnel side of the operation is going to drive the draft and free agency; the coaching staff is going to have to live with what they provide.

I honestly don't think that coaching makes a huge, huge difference in the NFL. I think that 90% of the game is not X's and O's, but Jimmys and Joes. If I believed that we were losing out on guys that would give us an advantage over Harbaugh, Carroll, and Fisher, I'd be more upset. But those guys were never out there.

So what's the difference?

To the point, I agree that keeping Whis made more sense because the Cardinals were not willing to scrap the current regime and start fresh. Screaming "I told you so" isn't my intent, but when discussing our situation with those who wanted change and then are now shocked with where change has taken us, it ends up coming out.

As far as coaching goes, I agree with you to some point. Players, QBs especially, make teams in this league. There are coaches who are obviously very good, but even they will struggle with bad QBs. I agree as well that our front office and their ability to bring in talent will make more of a difference in the end than who our offensive coordinator is to a point. Unfortunately we have seen what having a poor offensive coodinator gets us in terms of production from the offense. No Matt Cassel in New England for us. The downside is I dont' see us doing anything to change that situation.

What are we doing to implement a QB friendly offensive system? The answer is nothing. In the end, I can't see anything being done at this point to make me think we will have different results on offense in 2013 than we did in 2012. To me, that is the difference. We jumped out of the plane, and then started looking for a parachute.

Agree. There's not a better candidate out there than Whisenhunt.

To not even give Whiz a chance to revamp the situation was pretty ignorant to me. I think MB thought he was going to get Reid all along and once that blew up in his face, he's been scrambling ever since.

This was completely expected, and it's possible that the plan is (now?) to take a step backward in 2013, bottom out, and have an offensive line, running game, and defense in place to take a step forward with a young quarterback in 2014.

There just wasn't an option out there to bring a superior result in 2013 to what Ken Whisenhunt could provide. If there was, no one here has been able to convince me of that case (and I've been the biggest Whisenhunt skeptic out there beside Mitch, who was out on him before his first training camp). So here we are now.

IMO the plan is to give Kevin Kolb one last chance to not be Rob Johnson, and if he gets hurt again or reveals himself to be Kevin Kolb, then we'll have a high draft pick going into the 2014 draft.

We can draft David Carr's brother.

The Chiefs job was more attractive because of the power they were willing to give to Reid. I don't think the Browns job was more attractive in any way other than the fact that their division is a lot weaker. Also Rob Chudzinski had ties to the Browns and he was someone that we didn't even interview as far as I know.

I just can't agree with that. Stout could coach an NFL team to a 1-11 record with the one win coming against Detroit. K9 could run the team to a 3-15 record and lose to 2-14 Carolina and 3-13 Minnesota. Stout at least would have been smart enough to know Max Hall wasn't an NFL QB.

Teams just can't keep coaches who only win 18 games over 3 seasons no matter what they did before. Heck other franchises are talking about firing guys because they don't win playoff games.
