Good solid hire. It's nice to see that the Cardinals get the deal done before he leaves. I wonder if any Steeler assistants will follow with Cowher now retired.

well said....i concur....a solid experienced nfl asst and coordinator with a winning pedigree....his biggest chalenge is going to be to set
a new mindset....no more here we go again.....we will know if he has a degree of success if the stupid mistakes drop and we can't point our finger to the sidelines for poor calls and poor time managment....let's wish him the best of luck and complete support!!

Whiz to the Cards

I like this guys take on page 3 ... Compare the 2004 offense to the 2005 offense to the 2006 offense. While they all possess some strong similarities and propensities, let's be honest, they were materially different.

Good read. This tells me the guy was smart enough and experienced enough to analyze his available personnel and design the best offense around his players' abilities.

He's not just going to being "the Steelers offense" here. He's going to design the best possible Arizona Cardinals Offense. And I think it'll be a good one.

So with that thought, Bridget, Hugh Hefner's middle girlfriend with a Masters degree must be a genius!!

looks smart enough to me.

for the record, i like the hiring. love it? no. but i do like it. i know the history of steelers' assistants as HCs, but i can't help but think that cowher will rub off positively on one of them one day, and hopefully it's the whizzzzzz

On the Steelers board, there is conjecture that Cowher didnt get along with Grimm and Wis -- thus the reason for endorsing Gailey as HC

Also noted that in some article and/or radio interview -- Wis declared Joe Gibbs and Dan Henning as his main coaching influences -- which Steeler fans took as either evidence, or the cause, of any potential Cowher / Wis rift.

The coaching search in Pitt is taking on the feel of picking a Roman emperor.

People must not completely fault Pendergast [...] nor.. was it his fault that the time of possession was always in favor of the opposition...in which would cause the defensive to lose energy as the game progressed.... Did anyone else notice how the defense was solid in the 1st half, but then would completely falter in the 2nd half because the offense kept on going 3 and out?

Just for the record, some people seem to have formed this impression about the Cardinals over the last few years (example), but it's not accurate. For this season, the Cardinals' time of posession did fall to 16th in the league at 29:59. But last year they were ranked 7th at 31:20. And in 2004, they were ranked 10th at 30:53. You have to go back to 2003 to find a season when the team was more than one second below the league average (ranked 18th at 29:41), and even then they weren't in the bottom 1/3 of the league. In 2002, they were ranked 26th at 28:41. Now that may be an excuse for poor defensive play, but Pendergast's teams can't complain about TOP.

If he said that, Dan Henning was just fired, will he find a place for him on the staff?
