I don't think Floyd would be brought in to replace Breaston. I think he would be a bridge until Roberts is ready to take on the #2 role. After that, he would be a very solid slot guy, not to mention our most legitimate deep threat.

I think Floyd is one of the most overarted guys out there. He's one of those guys that looks the part but never plays the part. Give me James Jones over Floyd anyday. I'd still like the Cards to get Steve Smith (Car).

This. I really want no parts of the guy if we can have Jones instead.

Am I missing something

Kelly - 37 catches, 717 yards, 19.5 yards average, 6 TD's, 1 Fumble
Jones - 50 catches, 679 yards, 13.6 average, 5 TD's, 3 Fumbles, dont know what Kelly had but Jones without a doubt had the drops last year.

Dont get me wrong I would take either guy but why is Kelly a guy you want now part of but would like Jones. Kelly is the deep threat we havent had for some time.

Floyd is a deep threat in the same mold as Fitz using his strength and size outmuscle CBs because he lacks speed. Vincent Jackson is the burner on that Chargers offense.

ESPN

Floyd has developed into one of the stronger receivers on this team. He has excellent size to go along with above-average speed and adequate foot quickness and agility. He shows good athleticism when going up for the ball in traffic and consistently does a good job using his height and length to catch the ball over smaller defensive backs. He does a good job of reading coverages and adjusting his routes after the snap and provides the quarterback with a good target.

Dont care how he does it, 19.5 yard average is 19.5 yard average no matter how you slice it, that is a deep theat. Only 3 other players with 30 or more catches were better last year. Floyd is one of the better deep threats in the NFL and has been three years running. Fitz best year was 14.9.

Think Role

What role was Breaston expected to fill as #2? (Not only how Breason filled it, but what the prototype for the position was supposed to be).

Once that's established - Which FA's out there best fit that prototype?

My point - Doucet, Komar and Roberts are more slot/route types. Both Steve Smiths are similar.

Steve Williams (big rangy) has a different skill-set. Q was a more physical and slightly bigger version of Doucet and Roberts.

The question remains - Who out there would best fit the hole left by Breaston?

But just to throw a monkey-wrench into the whole mix - With more of a rhythm, west-coast QB in Kolb, do we still want our #1, #2 and #3 receivers to fit the Warner-regime receiver-mold or do those requirements now change?
