Yeah. The Cards like to have someone come in and, IIRC, they usually have candidates do a press conference to feel out how they are in front of the podium.

It's fine.
Seems odd. I'd rather have a good coach over a good public speaker.

How many NFL Head Coaches have you hired? If visiting the facility is a deterrent than the candidate can keep walking. It's a minor inconvenience, if that, and ensures that candidate wants to be in AZ. This is a two way street and there are more similarly qualified candidates than openings. I trust Keim and Bidwill. They will get it done.

This is called the argument from authority fallacy. You can’t invent the first plane if you’ve never flown. You can’t be an expert on the moon unless you’ve been there. You can’t be a good pitching coach unless your a pitcher. If a person doesn’t learn from over 50 years of observation, that person must be fairly dense. It’s true what I’ve presented is just an opinion. I certainly have been wrong, but this board would have very few posts if we limited people to commenting only on things they’ve done personally.

So when you posted, “Firing a coach isnt always the best solution.” You made that comment based on all the coaches you’ve fired?

I can't believe most would be ok with Shurmer. Terrible reign in Cleveland. Look at the players they signed and drafted under his watch. I don't want him anywhere near here. Id take Whis back before him. Horrible

Can't really use Cleveland as a great example, or blame drafting and FA acquisitions on him. He's had great success as an OC pretty much everywhere he's been, and several QB's have had career years under his tutelage. Who knows if he'll make a good HC with a stable franchise, but he's without a doubt one of the best OC's in the game.

In 2015 there was an article naming him number 12 out of 25 of the worst head coaches of the decade. Just saying. Can't use his only head coaching job as an example lol

I have a pretty firm feeling it's Shurmur or Bettcher at the end of the day. With it sounding like there's only 3 jobs left (assuming the Patricia news is true), I think we have the best remaining opening left. I think all three teams will hold their cards close to the vest until most of the teams have been eliminated. I'm not particularly concerned that we won't get our guy.
If it's Bettcher, I'm giving up on this franchise. This guy can't gameplan an entire game let alone be a head coach.

I'm not a doctor, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express, last night, so I don't have any patients. But I do have patience, and I hope that the Cardinals do, also. Like I tell my granddaughter, who is looking at colleges. There is NOT just one perfect school for you, there are many that will enable you to be not only happy, but successful, as well. So I'm just sitting back and enjoying the process. Go Cards!

I have reservations about all the candidates, and your argument above is my biggest about Shurmur.

Reason I like him, is he is well versed in the more spread out, fast paced, college type offenses, YET was able to also come up with an "old school" ground and pound offensive system when required by the roster.

Gotta pick one of them.

Well, if there's an article on it, it must be true. The Browns have had Mike Pettine and Hue Jackson since then and I don't think they have combined as many wins as Shurmur had.

Shurmur may be a guy who is better as a coordinator than HC but to not hire him based on his Cleveland run, or some article, is shortsighted at best.

I can only make a judgement on what's put out there. He's a great OC but 5-11 scares the Shurmer out of me

Keep in mind that the 2012 Cleveland Browns started Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson. It was Josh Gordon's rookie season.

And in 2011, they started Colt Mccoy. Shurmur wasn't exactly handed a recipe for success.

Yup. They replaced their "big three" in one draft class after going through 2011 with McCoy, Peyton Hillis, and Greg Little as their top targets. Greg Little had 120 targets!

The browns are an NFL franchise. Enough of the.....Well it's the browns....he wasn't given much to succed with. The bottom line is he went 5 and 11 two years in a row. To dismiss that like it should not count would be wrong. Like I said great OC but do I want him getting his second chance with my team? No

Minus one good year, Bill Belichick didn't fare a whole lot better. I'm sure many a Patriots fan were feeling the same way about him then.

BB was 37 and 45 with the Browns with a playoff victory over the Pats. Look what Shurmer did in 2 years.....not even a comparison

In BB's first 2 years he had 3 more wins than Shurmur. It's about as close a comparison as you get. Shurmur wasn't given 5 years like BB was.

2 different coaches ....BB is D....Shurm is O. The only comparison is they both coached the Browns. Shall we disect every Browns coach? We would be settling for an average coach with below average results. I hope I'm terribly wrong and he brings us many superbowls. But Sadly all I see is .....5 -11

I am good with either Shurmur, Wilks, McDaniels or Patricia.

Personally I like Shurmur, but honestly that has more to do with what he did in Minnesota as an OC than what he did in Cleveland as a head coach. Don't know who he would want as a DC.

Wilks sounds great. There are a couple good OCs up for grabs. Shula isn't a head coach guy, so he would be around for a bit.

He also still had Bernie Kosar and then a resurgent Vinny Testaverde as his QB's in Cleveland. I think it's safe to say, the current roster, overall, has been far inferior to those older Browns' teams.

That was the Ravens Browns wasnt it?? ... Not the "New" expansion Browns?
