man, I freaking love it. Maybe Graves checks this board and hears all the complaints about waiting too long. Already trying to lock-in guys that have a lot of value

If this gets done I think it'll be considered one of the best offseasons for the Cards in a long time. Especially if Floyd pans out. But even if not, surely Bethel or Massie or one of those dudes has to, and we secured the big enchilada with Campbell. Nice job.

Hyphen has turned into the worst kick return man in the league. Fool constantly took kick offs 8 yards deep in the end zone out only to get to the 12 yard line. Game after game kick off after kick off.

I would extend him tomorrow. He's not going to be expensive and he is a perfect fit for this team.

He can return kicks, catch out of the backfield and run a little. And he stays healthy.

A nice small bonus and something double the vet minimum should do it, I would think.

Keep in mind the KO rules were changed over the shortened offseason. Almost every KR brought balls out from deep inside the endzone. Some KRs did not adjust well.

Devin Hester, for example, averaged 21.8 YPR on 33 returns in 2011. LSH averaged 23.8 YPR on 36 returns.

So by your logic, Devin Hester is worse than LSH at KOR.

I like LSH, but what is his value ?

My hope is LSH realizes his own value, and that he has a good stable role in this roster. It could be a good thing extending him, or a big waste of money, IMO.

That being said that actions of trying to extend players early is a great thing. Just questioning LSH's value even thought I really like LSH, and would be happy for him to stay in AZ at the right price.

There are certain players that are just that...players. Somehow , someway they find a way to contribute and make plays.

LSH is one of those players. A misquito if you will. Won't carry your team to a Super Bowl but will certainly win a game here and there or make a first down at the time you least expect it. He has found a nice little niche on this team and I want him to stay.

I think for overall team morale, extending role players like LSH is just as important as extending the big stars. LSH is, hands down, the best all-around special teams player they've had in Arizona. Ron Wolfley was a maniac, but LSH has a lot more impact on games. His play as gunner on punt coverage is probably his strength, and it seemed they figured out how to use him in the backfield a lot better last year too.

He's our version of Steve Tasker. I don't care how much money they pay him (it's not mine, and I trust them to take care of stars now), I just hope he is extended.

if he is cheap: He was maddening to watch what you described but he DOEs have the ability to break one and he is a good scat back for special situations. Its not like we are going to pay him big money, the negotiations are for a 3rd string running back.

PS he is our best gunner on the punt team by far.

That's not true. He was nicked up all year last year, which is one reason why he wasn't effective as a gunner (I think he lost his job because he wasn't running well). The problem with assessing his value is that you can't give him even 15 touches a game, including kick returns.

I have no problem with the Cards extending LSH. I think people are right that this team needs to do better at extending their mid-level players before they can test free agency. But establishing his value in comparison to the rest of the league, and then getting him to play at that value? That's a challenge.

The Cards gave him a second-round tender that sets his 2012 compensation at $1.9 million. I think the Cards would love to include that as part of his bonus and have his new deal average $1.2 million per year or whatever. The issue is whether his agent says, "Well, you've established that he's worth $2 million a year to you. We'll let this contract average $3 million a year; give us four years, $12 million, and guarantee $6 million."

I don't think that would be a good deal.

If you want to put a value on LSH, you need to look no further than Darren Sproles. He went to NO last year, because the Chargers didn't put enough of a value on him...He exploded for NO, while SD was searching for answers all year long and never replaced him.

And Sproles got 4 years, $14 million from the Saints, according to Spotrac.com, and his cap number averages above $3.75 million the next three years.

Sproles averages 10.73 touches per game, counting returns.
LSH averages 5.95 touches per game, counting returns.

Sorry but LSH has nothing on sproles. He is similar in size and style but it stops there.

I think Sproles is built a lot thicker but, when healthy, LSH has a very similar skill set. Sproles also had an injury riddled start to his career.

BINGO!!!!!!

100 out of 100 would take Sproles over LSH

LSH sucks as a kick off man...couldnt get to the 20 over n over n over again. I actually turned from a fan to a hater of the guy. He no longer produces.

Watch the next kick 5+ yards deep in the end zone...he takes them all out and ends up between the 9 and 12 yard line.

From NFL Recap

Cowboys - Cardinals: LaRod Stephens - Howling took a short pass and ran 52 yards for a touchdown in overtime, giving Arizona the 19-13 victory.

This is enough for me to love the guy.

I agree with you that he is nothing like Sproles with the exception of being undersized for the position and not an every down back.

But it doesn't discount the fact that he is an invaluable asset to this team. On offense, he is a change-of-pace back who can outrun defenders when he gets open space and catch the ball in the backfield (he's also excellent at running wheel routes). On special teams, he is a terrific gunner and a very good kickoff return guy.

Truth be told, I'm not sure how much LSH would get on the open market, but I'm almost certain it wouldn't be near Sproles' contract. The team should not hand him a blank check, but it would be painful to see him sign elsewhere.

So not "invaluable." In fact, it sounds like you'd value that asset at about $2 million a season.
