Per rotoworld:

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the Cardinals have made a "huge push" to land free agent OLB Bruce Irvin.
The Jags and Falcons have long been considered frontrunners for Irvin from a dot-connecting standpoint -- both of their head coaches are ex-Seahawks defensive coordinators -- but the Cardinals may emerge as Irvin's most aggressive bidder. Irvin, 28, piled up 5.5 sacks and a forced fumble as a 12-game starter in Seattle last year. He played the OTTO strong-side position in Pete Carroll's 4-3, but would be a full-time rush 'backer in Arizona's 3-4 defense.

Don't know much about how he would fit into a 3-4. Hopefully he isn't a product of their other players.

Brock Huard was just on the Burns and Gambo show and said he has a good source that says Oakland and Arizona have been the most aggressive in their pursuits of Irvin.

Take it for what it's worth...

Cards can't compete with Raiders. They are $65 million under the cap.

I guess we will see what is valued more by Irving, a chance to win it all again or $$$. I have to imagine the Raiders wouldn't break the bank for him, so if the numbers are close, the choice will be enlightening.

I'd take Irving in a second. He's freaking nasty, brings attitude to a D that is lacking it in the front 7 and we weaken our biggest division rival. Get him there, go OLB/DE in the draft and if that kid is productive, you have a whole new D.

Raiders scored with a good young QB in Carr and are getting much better for the future but Irvin won't see a championship on their time table in my opinion

I do think he'd be better suited as 3-4 OLB than he was as a 4-3 DE.

I don't get all the hype around this guy... His career high in sacks is 8, which he put up his rookie season. He'll be 29 next season and his career high in tackles is 36, which he put up in his 2nd season - last season he had a whopping 5.5 sacks and 22 tackles.
What am I missing??

After all the bashing that Irvin has gotten on here (most of it rightfully so), it would be funny if this actually happened.

He won't have any problem playing a 3-4 alignment. He can rush the passer. Keep in mind his 14 sacks his last year in college put him second in the nation. He would be a big "get" if the Cards could land him. It's worth noting this is a legitimately tough guy. His criminal history is no joke. He truly resents the Seahawks for not re-signing him. If the Cards get him he'll make life difficult for Seattle. He will hurt them. As a bonus he may be even better in coverage than he is at rushing the passer. Finally, he's solid in run defense. He is likely the most versatile linebacker available.

they should make every push to get this guy. He's that missing dynamic player at the second level this D desperately needs to be amongst the big boys.

I'm not signing this guy for $8-10 mil/year. Could very well be the type of player who benefited financially from having elite talent/coaching around them his entire career. We've had a number of those in AZ before. Plus, his highest sack total was 8 in his rookie season.

If he's sitting there with his hands out in a couple of weeks and willing to take $5 million, maybe.

You guys are overlooking some pretty big off-field red flags with this guy. Kind of surprised that after the DWash experience we would roll the dice on such a player.

He's got a ton of speed and talent. I'm just...a little worried about him behaving himself.

I agree. Irvin is a big risk. Not sure either how he fits into the clubhouse.

Typically I don't advocate for drafting or signing thugs but I'm willing to make an exception in this case. IIRC he hasn't gotten into any trouble in the NFL.

I'm not interested in signing Irvin in the least. Garbage guy who won't earn what his salary will be paid. Pass all day.

Steve Keim and BA both know that our defense lacks a player who has nastiness in him. In fact we lack it on both sides of the ball. BA & SK are both looking for someone to lead both our offense and defense who has a fire in their belly. Campbell has sorely lacked that attribute during his whole time here, and BA has really been pushing him to step up and play angry. He's just not built that way. Yes, he has all kinds of ability, but not much 'want to'. If he played with passion, he could maybe come close to doubling his productivity, AND build some fire in our roster as well. I think that is why SK is looking at Irving from Seattle. Guys who play with bad intentions sometimes make bad mistakes as well. Apparently SK is willing to risk that to make this defense killer.
