Cards offensive system

Really liked the system tonight. I think we all saw last week that this is David Johnsons offense. That is no disrespect to the Cards pass game, but the Cards have the back, the run blockers, and the passer to punish teams. They can wear down the defense, give our defense rest, and bust the big ones at the right time. Carson is plenty happy to convert short passes and convert on third and short against a tired defense. What really makes it work, is the defense knows what the Cards are capable of down field.

At the same time, we know the Cards have the offense, at times, to open up the playbook if need be. I do think that the base offense should be a run first system.

Also, credit to BA for adjusting as this was not a typical BA called game.

The only thing that is hurting this offense now is how Palmer seems to be scared back there. There were several plays he had the time but seemed to rush the throw anyways. They got alot better in the 2nd half, but the need to be better through the whole game to have a chance with the more difficult teams.

If we could learn to use our TEs more... this team would be hard to beat and Fells and Gresham have that ability

The pocket was nonexistent in the first half. In the second, the protection was vastly improved and he had more timing with his receivers.

The reason we won is because the run game led the charge, Palmer didn't make any mistakes (INT's) and did a fine job managing the game and taking what the defense gave him. A lot gets mentioned about our preference to drive the ball down the field but look at how successful our receivers were tonight with the short to intermediate routes. Yes, Nelson and Brown have deep speed but John Brown is a great route runner (he was eating Skrine alive tonight), Fitz and Floyd are too shabby with running routes either. If the team can control the game running the ball theywill keep defenses honest to where they are not playing 10 - 15 yards off the LOS anticipating the deep ball. When the time is right and the defense isn't expecting it, then take your shot down the field.

^^^agreed. Most run first teams are run first because they cant throw the ball. The fact that the Cards can throw the ball makes them a lethal run first team. The defense has to think twice about stacking the box and the minute that safety creeps up, BOOM

Totally agree. Its seems the line got more acclimated in the second half. It could also be that the D line was just getting tired from all the running that was going on.

This. BA was savvy enough to keep running it early, even when the idiot Gruden was wondering why he was forcing the run game when it wasn't working. I'm really concerned about out guards going forward, but what can you do about injuries? I'm also really concerned about Humphries in the passing game, though this one was avoidable by Keim in the offseason. On three straight plays, in 1-on-1 pass blocking, Humphries whiffed to give a free runner a shot on Palmer.

Yeah, I forgot about that. F'ing Gruden. When he said that I remember thinking 'Really, 1/2 a drive into the game, and you're already telling the Cardinals to abandon the run? Do you even monitor what comes out of your mouth? Are you just trying to fill air time and saying he first thing that pops into your head?' So thanks for bringing that up because now I feel redeemed.

I loved the offensive game plan though with all the short passes. I think I heard the longest completion was 14 yards? And I'm fine with that. This is a pretty big deal I think. BA took alot of heat for being stubborn and he's not going to change. He'll take the ship down with him trying to force the long ball. Well, he did none of that. He knew Bowles would blitz the hell out of Palmer and the only chance the Cardinals had to move the ball was to dink and dunk. And that's what he did. So good.

I loved it when Gruden said, Cards wanted Abdulla in the 2nd last year but he got taken right in front of them. We ended up taking David Johnson in the 3rd, who is a budding star in the league.

In 2008, Gruden wanted Deshawn Jackson but he was taken before Tampa picked. Gruden ended up taking Dexter Jackson... and now he is no longer a coach.

Concussions often have that effect. The brain is wired to remember what damaged it and avoid.

Yeah, BA nailed the game plan on that one. Bowles probably expected him to air it out early and often. BA stayed...patient. Not a word we usually ascribe to him, but he earned it last night.
