Also, if you drafted a LT this year and kept PJJ at RT, I think it works long term as well. This offense will continue to have a focus of running the ball which means they won't need to spend as much on multiple WRs.
a couple thoughts riffing off this

1. There is something to be said for having two tackles who dont need help in pass pro

2. The scouting ive read says: Olu is uber high level pass pro but only average in run blocking. Alt is very good at pass pro -- but below Fash -- and also a very good run blocker. Suggests the Cards would probably prefer Alt

Bridgewater dragged one worst coaching staffs in college football history into a Sugar Bowl win, but I don't remember him having the cannon or insane accuracy of Penix.

I would worry if a team like the Vikings drafted Penix.
If he can stay healthy he’s a difference maker. It’s just that he’s a time bomb with a random clock.

Pick your scout, there’s no consistency in the evaluations.

1 - I would amend that to state it would be something to have two tackles who are both good in run blocking and pass blocking.

2 - I agree with the assessment that Alt fits the attitude and skillset of what the Cardinals want to do better than Fashanu.

I haven't heard of anyone saying Fashanu is better in the run game than Alt. I feel like I have heard a lot of scouts were surprised with the jump Alt made this past year. I didn't expect to have Alt and Fashanu this close. Are you hearing different?

B is a good grade! He certainly didn't star, so he doesn't get an A. He wasn't bad, so he doesn't get a C. He was a B player.

Paris SHOULD get better. Doesn't mean it's guaranteed.

If you pick a guy in the top 10, you expect him to be a star, period.
I don't. Ideally you would, but not every draft has 10 star players. Most don't. At 10, I expect minimum a plus starter and PJJ will probably be one with a shot at being better than that.

One of the reasons I would prefer Alt over Fashanu is that he made 33 consecutive starts at LT for Notre Dame. If we are going to draft a LT at #4, we need to be them to be a plug and play starter. I think Alts pedigree, attitude, and experience make him the better fit for that role.

Personally I don't think that really matters. If Paris stays at RT, it is because the Cardinals drafted a better prospect at LT in Alt or Fashanu, not because PJJ is bad. And, the only reason I think this is a consideration is because of Humphries injury and the ability to get a decent RT prospect in the 20s. I didn't see any dominant play from him to make me believe he can be the best OT on a good line, but I don't feel I saw any glaring issues either. Both avenues have merit IMO.
Obviously its best to keep him at RT. However, I do wonder if the position he can be great at is guard.

As I remember we spent a rather high pick on a guard also only to trade him to New England a couple of years Later trade worked though because we got Chandler Jones in Return wasnt his name Johnathan Cooper or Something like that?
So what? The redskins and colts spent top ten on guards the niners spent 9 pick on mcglinchy. I cried for years cuz the last gm wouldn’t fix the o line. I hope this guy does

I think the point was, from the poster he replied to, that if we do draft an Alt/Fashanu at 4, it will relegate PJJ to constantly playing RT, which means therefore we spent the #6 last year on a now permanent RT.
We have way greater needs I think and while I'm not an expert I thought RT were a lot cheaper as a FA.

That leaves us to draft positions of greater need, like a lot of the defence and a #1 WR

Adding Joe Alt could be a great move...NFL likes legacies and his daddy was an all pro for the chefs for years...he is the big man equivalent to MHJ... could just be poor luck for PJJ if he planned to play LT...because guys like this dont come along every year...
ALt at 6'8" and PJJ at 6'6" could be the twin tower bookends for Kyler for the next 15 years...givertake.
its arguable that taking Alt, then the best WR available later...gains us greater net value than taking MHJ and the best OT available later...but its arguable that thats pure ******** too.

having to choose between these two guys is a nightmare in our teams current position.
I think, I would take Harrison, then draft Mims later and kick PJJ to the left
If available I expect the Cards to run to the podium with the picks trouble comes if MHJ isnt available

Many evaluators put Fashanu before Alt. While Alt probably has a slight edge at the moment in run blocking Fashanu’s overall ability likely means he will equal or pass Alt at some point. Both are excellent OT prospects and either one improves the Cards, though I still go WR first.
