and then maybe Levi Brown.

who the hell are you and what have you done with K9?! An extension for one of the worst Ts (regardless of draft position) I've ever seen on this team? Besides getting killed on plays, after he's killed, he just stands there like the motionless corpse he is.

This was so incredibly crucial to the future of our defense. Awesome news, simply awesome. I say that this is bigger news for us than whether DA or ML start at QB. Either way, I think DA or ML will just hold place until Skelton and his monster gun of an arm is ready to step into the starting lineup. To keep DD is to keep the heart and soul of our defense.

What a great signing and an excellent press conference. Darnell and Whiz certainly have a good relationship and tremendous respect for each other!!!!!

So obvious it seems like a hit on Leinart. He must have done something really bad to piss them off so much.

That's two or three years down the road. Calais Campbell will have to get done first. Tim Hightower, too.

Look, here's my take on Levi Brown: We should have drafted Adrian Peterson. Levi Brown disappointed (the coaches aren't going to say it, but there it is) at right tackle. Now we're moving Brown to left tackle because (cue echo to the past) he's getting paid like a left tackle. Maybe the switch and the extra responsibilities inspires him to play like a Top 5 pick; he hasn't shown that so far this preseason to me. I get hoarse screaming at Levi Brown to stop standing around. In the middle of plays.

But if he plays like an above-average left tackle, you should probably guarantee the last year of his contract (which'll accelerate because he'll reach playing time incentives) and extend him. We don't need an All-pro left tackle. We need a guy who can hold down the fort. We need to do it before Joe Thomas and Jake Long's contracts get re-done, though. They're going to blow the lid off the salary ceiling (mixed metaphor warning) for the position.

Whis's first draft class is coming due this year:

2007 1 1 5 5 Levi Brown T Penn State
2 2 1 33 Alan Branch DT Michigan
3 3 5 69 Buster Davis LB Florida State
4 5 5 142 Steve Breaston WR Michigan
5 7 5 215 Ben Patrick TE Delaware

Buster Davis is gone. Ben Patrick is likely gone or a minimum-salary extension (honestly if we do well I really expect the Cards to invest a first round pick in a TE). Steve Breaston and Alan Branch are likely gone. You can't lose an entire draft class and expect to remain competitive in the NFL.

Even if Levi Brown signs a contract worth $10 million more than the one Donald Penn just signed with Tampa, it'll look like peanuts and a great value two years later.
