If Ray Rice doesn't fumble and change the game, Butler is probably hired already. The lack of urgency tells me they know something or at least he's the clear cut #1 choice and they will wait him out. Too bad it looks like it may be February until they can hire him.

I think you are correct...what is apparently showing is our group paranoia regarding the lack of OR coaching situation. Somewhere in the hunt there are guys including Butler who are in the mix

except for the fact that Singletary is not a good coach and couldnt get a DC job anywhere (LB coach in Minny) and the Ryan family hates the Cardinals. I think we are putting all our eggs in the only basket worth weaving at this point.

Meanwhile at the University of Texas Duane Akina leaves yesterday for the Arizona Wildcats and this afternoon Texas announces Jerry Gray ( 4 time pro-bowler - 10 years as an NFL coach) has been hired as his replacement.

Seriously, the Cards need to have the UT people in charge of hiring their coaches.

Come on Duck, the HC would rather remain loyal to his coaches than do what's best for the franchise & his job.:D

I still don't understand Wiz's unwillingness to fire the 2 Millers & possibly Grimm and add some real offensive teachers to his staff. IMO the Millers will be a big reason he gets canned!!! The QB position isn't the only problem with our offense.

Grimm will eventually get CKW fired. There is nothing wrong with the talent on our offensive line. There is something very seriously wrong with the blocking schemes. All you have to do is remember how many times a defender has been unblocked and blew up one of our plays. Not a missed block but simply unaccounted for in the blocking scheme.

Watch some replays and focus on the oline. It will make you mildly ill.

He's had a hard time holding a job recently.
That's never a good sign.
He's an abrasive personality, but clearly is a well prepared and knowledgable dude.
... which could work to Whis' good cop routine.
But unless he's coming to work on the secondary exclusively, I'd rather have someone else.

Is it an assumption that if Butler leaves he is eliminated from being the next DC in Pittsburgh? I know the Rooney's value loyalty but I don't know that this means they are quick to claim disloyalty. If DL is planning on staying as DC for a few more years, Butler getting some DC experience (from a team with Steeler connections) then coming back might not be the worst thing in the world for them.

According to Jurecki, doesn't matter if Pittsburgh wins or loses this weekend, come Monday morning, we'll be able to submit the request to interview Butler, due to there being 2 weeks before the Super Bowl. He also stated, not to expect a formal interview due to the fact that Whis and Butler have a strong relationship and that as long as Pittsburgh grants permission to talk to the Cards, Butler will be the guy. Said he has heard from multiple sources around the league that Butler is well worth the wait.

The Steelers didn't deny us in '08.

I think if Whis has waited this long, it's for a reason. He and Butler are close buddies that chat all the time and golf together on a fairly regular basis during the offseason. I'd have to believe Whis feels very confident that Butler would accept.

We were denied in '07 not after we fired Clancy. Butler was undergoing hip replacement surgery and declined the position then.

man, this team HAS to know that butler is the guy or they're going to look just flipping stupid.

Cheese, we are the Cardinals...Butler not coming here would fit in nicely with many of the strange moves this team made all of last season. I just have a bad feeling!!!

me too... i actually have this nightmare scenario of the Steelers winning the Super Bowl, LaBeau retires riding off into the sunset and Butler gets promoted on the spot and the Cardinals get caught with their pants down... again.

Bah.

Who could resist a soul sucking detonation of your career on a team that has more scalps than trophies?

Who would give that up for the kind of God like glory possible in Pittsburgh our veritable antithesis in the league?

You underestimate our lure I think.

To calm some of the typical histrionics, Butler is probably NOT the only qualified candidate from outside the organization (not like there is one within the org).

Butler might be the top of the list, but there is likely 2-3 fall back options. Rex Ryan would've been nice, but coaches generally hire within the coaching circles they know.

I like the idea of Butler though, and I hope we get him. Obviously if the Steelers have so much confidence in him he must be a great defensive mind. Not that I think it will change things too much around here; we still badly need a big time pass rusher or at least a competent one. Haggans and Porter had five sacks a piece, but that figure is misleading when at least by the eyeball test, QB pressures were infrequent.

then why haven't we interviewed ANY of them? Urban has said in his blog comments that we've had no interviews since Manusky.
