How pathetic that a home NFL team has to recruit fans in the visiting team's city to fill seats.

Team tries to unload tickets on Rams fans

With the largest ticket "inventory" in the NFL, the Cardinals are trying to ring up sales in enemy territory.

Last week, 25,000 St. Louis Rams season ticket holders received a mailing containing information about buying tickets to Sunday's game at Sun Devil Stadium, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

"I'm a little surprised it's a story," said Ron Minegar, Cardinals vice president of marketing and sales. "It's something a lot of teams do, anyone who has a little inventory."

Not many teams in the NFL have to resort to such practices, however. The New Orleans Saints have done it in the past, Minegar said, and it's a common practice in other professional sports.

"We're going to do anything to move tickets, given the inventory we have," he said.

As of Thursday afternoon, the Cardinals had distributed 38,989 tickets for Sunday.

The Cardinals have finished last in the league in attendance for the past several years. Last season they averaged 36,717 fans per game. This year they have distributed an average of 34,091 tickets for their five home games.

Rams safety Adam Archuleta, who played at Chandler High and Arizona State, took a shot at the Cardinals' lack of support.

"With the NFL being the sport that it is, it's really ridiculous that you can't fill up a stadium," he told the Post-Dispatch. "I don't know the statistics, but I'm pretty sure that Phoenix is a very large city in the U.S. And to not be able to get fans at a major sport, that seems odd."

Sorry, didn't realize this was "old" news already.

I guess it is news locally. And, it is pathetic that they are actually hustling tickets in St. Louis.

And if you read it you would find out that several other teams do this all the time. This is the first for the Cardinals.

It's just magnified when we do it, cause unlike those other teams we actually need people to come out to the damn games, so the camera pans of an empty stadium don't further our laughingstock status.

Well Mr. Archuleta it is ridiculous to believe that you played HS football here and went to ASU for how many years? and you are only "pretty sure" that Phoenix is a large city.....

What are they teaching these ASU students any way?

Adam, Adam. What are you thinking? You who played for a same Sun Devils team that couldn't sell out your own stadium. You who played for that same Sun Devils team which lost to New Mexico State. New Mexico State? There is no equivalent level of suckdom in the NFL.... maybe the expansion Seahawks. What a ****.
