Or maybe the Cards will not trade because the player they want IS Barron and smartly have said nothing about it ;)

Not another first round pick used in the secondary... Without question the most important position on the field next to the QB is the dude who protects him - Tackle. Reiff is the pick if he's available! ;)

All options are on the table.

But my gut says the chances we trade down at #13 are now close to 50-50.

I'm thinking 70% against a tradedown...I think the Cards learned their lesson in just drafting the best player on their board.

I'm 70% we should trade down, the last first round trade down there was a big drop off in talent if I remember right at around 15 that isn't the case this year. I really think there is comparable talent 7-25.

The teams at 14-25 are thinking the same thing, so who trades up to us exactly?

IMO it is at least 50-50 we trade down. San Diego, Philly, and the Jets are all candidates to move up IMO. That doesn't mean we get a second. It would be tough to go all the way down to #19 though.

A team that rates a player that they believe is a top 10 pick and he slides. They also don't think that player will be there when they pick. Not hard to see many scenarios where this could occur IMO. The OP has one that I could see happening.

Trading down 1 pick say to the cow patties, could net us a 3rd or a 4th (or more, but doubtful with Graves ability to wheel and deal).

This way you'd pretty much know who the cowboys will select and shouldn't lose anyone other than that guy. Given there are so many options available to us, as long as we control the process I wouldn't mind trading down.

Also, while it is very hard to continually trade down, trading with the cowboys would allow us to do just that...the ability to trade down, and then trade down one more time. Netting two picks, that either help us, or can be packaged to trade back up into the 2nd round. Maybe we keep the lower of the 3rd round picks and package the highest one up.

I also think those value charts are screwy, and thus don't usually use them, so I have no idea if they've been adjusted now with the new rookie slot type thing. Because this totally revamps it all, and is again why such disassociated metrics are really nothing more than sophistry for the masses.

Granted, if properly adjusted you can gleam something from them. But overall it is not really a guidebook or blueprint, more of just a ballpark type thing that still can be off by miles. With it becoming more like miles if it hasn't been adjusted due to the rookie slotting and overall lesser compensation.

So if we're on the clock and there are multiple guys we want, I'd trade down with the patties, and then look to do one more if possible and feasible. You have to do the first one, before you really have a chance to have done the chain trading down aspect. But if you can do that one, then the others come easier, as you have more wiggle room and ability to take a slightly less offer, because you can then package those 2 or 3 picks you acquire in two trade downs to pick up a 2nd rounder or more.

Even if you trade down a pick or two three times, and pick up say two 3rd's and a 4th, or perhaps even 1 3rd and two 4ths, it's awfully hard not see how three such picks couldn't get you back up to the 2nd round somewhere.

Still I'd classify any trade down, especially multiple times as doubtful, but it will never happen if you don't try. Overall if we could swing two or three trades within 6 or so picks it might be worth it. Even a single pick down would be worth it.

Some teams fall in love with specific players and, instead of following a BPA strategy, will trade up to get their man.

The Jets are notorious trader-uppers. I agree that Dallas might want to trade up to pre-empt SD from grabbing Barron as might Philly.

That's 4 teams who might be talking trade.

They may want to trade up to preempt SD from taking Barron but just about every team outside of the top 2 has been rumored to have interest in the Alabama safety so it's a real crapshoot trying to figure out where you'd have to move up to. I think a lot of teams are floating his name in an effort to gain trade leverage but with so much smoke it's hard to see anything clearly.
