It almost seems as if the Cards 'know' that no team will pursue Boldin for their reported asking price of a 1st and 3rd rounder. Basically with the intention of sending a message that teams dont want him as much as he and his agent predicted, which might make them lower their asking price on an extension. What kind of leverage would Boldin have for a huge extension if he knows that other teams wouldn't pursue him for what he thinks he's worth. Obviously teams have a lot of doubt with the acquisition of Boldin, so maybe this will send a message to him that he should take what the Cards give him. I honestly dont think he'll be traded, and i hope not, considering he is certainly a core player on this team.

Boldin never said he thought he was worth that. The only thing that was said was Rosenhaus speculating right after the Cowboy/Detroit trade went down.

It has been clearly stated that the RAven were willing to trade a 1st rounder. If you dont think that trade would be cotingent upon them being able to sign Boldin to a lucrative long term deal your fooling yourself.

Rosenhaus has specifically said that he felt a deal similar to that of Roy Williams was necessary compensation for Boldin, why would Boldin disagree? Raven's have already stated that a 1st and a 3rd is 'too high' of an asking price, hence why they were offering a player along with a pick, instead of offering the initial picks. Fact of the matter is, Boldin has 0 leverage, and the cards are holding him on a string to see if teams are actually willing to bite. I never said anything about a 'long term deal' from the ravens...?

You are implying that if the Cards dont get what they feel they should get and keep him that Boldin should wake up and realize that maybe he isnt worth a big contract. When whether he is traded or not really has no baring on his contractual worth. It just doesnt. Rosenhaus is speculating and nothing more in those comments. Doesnt really matter if boldin agrees with him or not.

How could they command a #1 receiver contract if he can't even be traded for #1 receiver compensation? If anything, this just gives the Cardinals more leverage to lower the asking price. This is all negotiations, and Cardinals can use this situation as leverage. Maybe once Boldin realizes he can't be traded, he will finally get a deal done with the Cards. Boldin shouldn't be traded, because i'm sure he realizes that with Fitzgerald commanding doubles on the other side, he will get a huge share of the productivity.

I love Boldin but he is not Fitz and needs to realize if the Cards are willing to give 8 mil a year it is fair compensation. I am tired of Boldin bad mouthing the front office when they did offer and he did sign a new contract after his first year.

I don't believe the Cards are "sending a message" - the marketplace is sending the message.

Within the framework of how contracts are drawn up, extended (or not extended) and deals redone - there often comes a time where both the team and the player agree to test that player's value on the open market.

This offers a degree of risk to both team and player - the team may find out he's worth a lot more and they'll have to pony up a lot more money. Or the player may find out he's not worth as much as his agent thought he was.

I think that's what's playing out here.

What's hard to get a handle on is the degree to which the Cardinals are susceptible to "blinking" and getting rolled - and how this is perceived by other NFL teams. (Example - When the Cards passed on Suggs, dropped to around #18/#19 and let the Eagles jump ahead of them to grab the pass rusher - McDougall - whom the Cardinals wanted, one NFL general manager was heard to say: "Leave it up to the Cardinals to screw things up.")

Hopefully, things have changed since then in the Cardinal front office. I'm hoping they and we have become sick and tired of being considered the "Mikeys" of the NFL who can be rolled in any negotiations. I'd be very disappointed if we let Anquan go without getting quite a bit more than a #1 and a #3.

What's working in our favor is that other teams not only have to ante up draft picks and/or players, they also have to be willing to pay Boldin what Q feels he's worth (and must jam this into their salary cap).

My take is there is a 90% probability he is gone. I suspect there is a deal almost in place and the Cards are just waiting to see if anything better comes along. A lot of things happen on the phone at the GM's office we have no idea about.

Well, if as you say - "A lot of things happen on the phone at the GM's office we have no idea about" - how can you be 90% certain of anything.

Q's value is in the eyes of the beholder.

Bottom line. We will survive without Boldin, although we may not want to. We proved that last year when he was out. So his value here may be a tad lower than a team like the Ravens. That being said, the Ravens can use their first pick to get a wr, thus driving done Q's market value there.

Q is a great receiver, but he is not the same type of receiver as Fitz, Moss, or Andre Johnson. Again this lowers his value a little. We keep saying "The Cowboys gave up a 1 and a 3 for Williams, so....., so what? Just because THEY overpaid doesn't mean another team will.

I don't think ANYBODY is going to offer us a first and a third. The best we are going to get is a first and a player like the Ravens ( rb Rice). Mitch mentioned in another thread to the Cowboys for Felix Jones, a 2nd and a 3rd. That would be a VERY interesting debate and a trade I think would be great for both teams.

Q has painted himself into a corner whether he wants to believe that or not. He has 2 years left on a 7 year, 33m deal that he signed and was very happy with. He was at the front of the line and got his deal. He now needs to understand that he can't butt the line. He must wait until desired players with 1 year left on their contracts are taken care of. Like it or go look for a job selling cars or something.

:yeahthat:

For all the Eagles shrewdness at the time he turned out to be a bust anyhow. They should have realised it if the Cardinals wanted him at the time. :p

The market is definately setting Boldin's value here. The Cardinals shouldn't cave in unless they're bowled over by something better than what the Cowboys paid for Williams. Who everyone agrees isn't as good.

If the Cards do pony up the cash, they'll have to cut ties with James and Okeafor both.

There is a difference between what a team will give up in draft picks and what they will pay a FA. Q's trade value is being established but not what he should be paid. These two things don't go hand in hand.

Look what TJ Whoseyourmama and even Torry Holt just signed for this offseason. Teams will overpay in FA but far less often give up coveted draft picks.

Anquan's situation has injected some needed spice into this infuriating waiting.

Just what do all you Gurus think Boldin is worth to the Cards in terms of a contract (length) and money? He is not worth as much as Fitz and I think that is a given so we have a high side.

Lots of things to consider here such as will he most definitely leave after his two years and we will get nothing. We won without him in the lineup last year. Just how important is he to us with a good corps of receivers already signed? Is he worth more to the team than say a good RB? How would he respond if not traded? Is his injury completely healed? This is no easy move no matter which way you jump.

Interesting too, RG's comment yesterday following saying that there were no offers for Q that he wasn't sure how this reflects what the teams think of Boldin...something to that effect...which plays right into the perception the Cardinals may be listening to trade offers to confirm that they aren't the only team that doesn't want to pay him near Fitz money.

What someone is willing to trade for a player and what they are willing to pay in salary do not go hand in hand Mitch. You cant even come close to correlating the two.

Totally agree, Shane. But...it's interesting that RG made the comment, is all I'm saying. Sometimes he's like an open book and sounds like a GM who wants to be exonerated.

If no trades are offered to Q it would certainly strengthen the team's resolve to keep Q at his current contract, at least for another year, wouldn't it?

And is this was what RG wanted all along? That's the question.

What do you think?

I think if he doesnt get traded that they absolutely keep him one more year at his current contract. That is a given IMHO.
