Getting alex smith and grow behind him lamar Jackson, then with a couple of offensive lineman and a receiver like jarvis Landry we could be back at the top of the NFC west

Alex Smith is a very smart QB. A better than average game manager. His stats prove it. If we can't get a top 5 pic qb this year a guy like Smith would be a great 2-3 year bridge We would need to add a WR or 2. The o-line if healthy could be pretty good as most thought at the beginning of the year. You might have to give up or renegotiate with a guy like honey where you have about 14 million held up. A free safety to play as well as he did this year for a lot less can be found.

I'll be watching KC Sunday(DirecTV Sunday Ticket) since Mahomes will get the start. Could be a telling audition and a signal that Alex could be available... or not.

This is why I wish the draft was before free agency. If we were unable to draft our QBOTF then go after a Cousins or Alex Smith. Alex Smith is a hell of a game manager though. He keeps getting better and with a running game you can win with him. That being said I want us to be all in on drafting our guy in the first round. I want us to have our own Carson Wentz, Andrew Luck.

All salient points, plus the guy has decent wheels which is important given the poor O-line play of the Cards.

CP was on paper, a very good fit for BA’s offense. I love the man, and he was tough as nails. But, he had WAY TOO MANY jaw dropping stupid passes into triple coverage that prevented us from having the opportunity to get to a SB. Do we remember the game in Pittsburgh a couple of years ago, when we moved up and down the field, only to see CP throw asinine passes into triple coverage that cost us a game we should have won EASILY. I, for one, think AS would thrive in our offense. He’s accurate, which is MOST important, and has a much stronger arm than given credit. He’s also has a MUCH MUCH MUCH higher football IQ than CP. We should still draft a QBOTF, but AS would put us right back into contention next year.

I truly believe right now that 2019 draft is our best shot to get the actual franchise QB we all dream of for the Cards. Either way, we will need an experienced QB for another 2 yrs, to both start and mentor our "dream" QB of the future. Thus, I would look for our 'new current' QB as someone who would be an expert mentor, teacher, and example for what we want the new kid to be.

That being said, I would go after .........

And so it begins. All the "No, no, I know we say it EVERY SINGLE YEAR, but NEXT year really, TRULY is the better year to get our QBOF. HONESTLY!"

Garbage. Every year, the same refrain. Every year, the grass is always greener. Let's think about the future NOW, for once, rather than puttering along and not addressing the elephant in the room. AGAIN.

No risk it, no biscuit, right?

I hear you, but in this case in just may be a question of taking one of the qbs left after the top 4 or so are gone versus having our pick of whoever we want in 2019.

I hate to be negative, but I truly feel that if any of you, after looking at our schedule and depending on who we might lose this off season, who think we are going to squeeze out a bunch of wins like we did this season against the worst of the worst (mostly teams without a QB like us) are a bit disillusion. Of course I could be totally wrong. But heck, most of what we do on here is project the way we see it at any given time.

Plus, the more I see this coming draft's QBs, the more I shake my head and wonder if more than 1 or 2 will be anything but big busts. What scares me is I only see 2 of the QBs who are winners, both the Okla kids. Most of the Qbs drafted high in most seasons are coming from successful winning teams and seasons, or is my memory simply bad. This group really leaves as many questions as any I can remember. It would be interesting to see what the true evaluation would be on them if so many teams weren't so desperate for a QB this season.

I just wonder if you can expect much in a year where you are expected to find a franchise QB out of the left overs after the teams in the top 10 have moved around and picked. We will see!

There are an estimated 10 draftable QBs this year. I don't believe any of them are instant starters. Why delay a year of learning?
