The @azcardinals add RB R Mendenhall, QB D Stanton, CB J Powers, LB L Alexander and S Yeremiah Bell as free agents. Cut Rhodes #free agency

First time I heard his name associated with the Cards and its announcing he has signed...

Signing of Bell allows @azcardinals to release S Kerry Rhodes. Rhodes’ move saves $6M in cap space and cash outlay in 2013.

It's very hard to get excited about a 35 year old safety.

Although, this day will make me really happy if we add Maualuga.

Where the hell did this come from. Has been a solid reliable starter last 5 years between Miami and the Jets last year.

I wonder if they're bringing him until Bethel is up to speed.

Well now we know for sure releasing Wilson was all about money.

of course it was. For vwt min, he could be here for the next 5 years. But he didn't play the position Horton went with a lot for SS here. Perhaps Bell fits Arians D better. For taking someone so old though and releasing Rhodes, it really makes me wonder if they have starter expectations from Bethel or if there'ssomeone in this draft that they have their eye on

It's a fairly deep safety draft.

I remember hearing that before. But couldn't remember where and if I trusted the source. BA's staff really needs to get in and evaluate these guys and see where we stand for the future. I expect a handful more changes this next year. Sucks about Rhodes though. I always thought he was our most underrated player on the whole team

I like Rhodes too.

However, he's in for a rude surprise if he thinks he's a $6M FS out there in the market.

I dont think it has anything to do with 6 million for him. The Cards wanted to extend him and reduce the cap hit. He just plain and simply doesn't want to be in ARIZONA. I think he accepted the fact that 6 million wont be his salary next year.

Do you know what the Cards new offer was? It could have been much less. He wasn't going to get paid $6 million.

Also why is it just coming out now that Rhodes didn't want to be in Arizona?

Probably because now is when he made it evident that he wasn't going to take a pay reduction/extension to stay here. That alone makes it pretty clear he didn't want to be here.... He knew the team wasn't going to pay 6 million bones for him. So he forced their hand.

I don't doubt it was less and should be at this point in his career (IMO) It's Jurecki who is reporting that he simply wanted out.

Very astute PR move by the Cards to keep it under wraps until Rhodes is released.

Bell: The Jets will miss Bell. He didn't provide huge production (no interceptions, one sack, three fumble recoveries), but he rarely looked bad. He was a smart player and a good locker-room presence, a true grown up in the room. After one game, when Scott was ranting at the media, Bell basically told him to put a sock in it. One thing Bell couldn't change: His birth certificate. He's 35, and 35-year-old safeties usually don't get to stick around on rebuilding teams.

That was one problem last year Wilson & Rhodes were off on their coverage multiple times the past 2 years.

Lets hear it homers, tell me how much better the tandem of Yeremiah Bell and Rashad Johnson is than Adrian Wilson and Kerry Rhodes. Hope is for suckers.

As much as I loved Adub. I just don't see how you think they showed any promise of playing at a high level this year. Loosing Rhodes will hurt more from a production side, but it is only 2 days into free agency and the draft is next month.

You're looking for an argument were none exists. Wilson's skills had diminished and it was time to move on, and most envisaged a Rhodes, Johnson and draftee combination at safety.

Now it will be Johnson, Bell and a draftee in all probability, if we don't pick someone else up. We don't know what the Cards had offered to Kerry, but, clearly he preferred to move on. So be it.

OK, you are right. There is no debate, we are worse off.
