and still they/ we should salute the soldiers etc far more than we diefy athletes, politicians, actors, AI participants etc

Then do it. Set up a non-profit to honor soldiers by throwing them parades and events in major cities. You obviously feel strongly about this, and I agree that it is a severe issue in our society, so what is stopping you from stepping in and making a difference? There are several good stories to be told from soldiers, firefighters and police officers and all that is ever heard is bad, if anything. It would do a hell of a lot more good to go do something about that than to get mad about the status quo of people worshiping entertainers. Try and change the status quo.

Gee, I completely agree with you that its the PR dept, etc and nothing to do with Whis and the players....... My sentiment comes from a industry that prepackages these "stars" and creates these heros that people go crazy over.... Millions of people spend hours each week on AI stuff from watching the show to discussing it, etc. For what? What cultural, moral, ethical value does AI bring to us except to line the pockets of Fox and the AI producers.

As I said before we should have a parade for every soldier coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan before this crap

So... Basically, removie "AI" from this post and replace it with "NFL/MLB/NBA" and you've got the same thing. Whether it's singing, throwing footballs, shooting baskets or hitting baseballs, it's all less important than what real "heros" do (Servicemen, Police, Fire fighters). So when the Cardinals win a Superbowl and the parade through downtown is planned, I hope I hear the same complaints from everyone. Although I'll be at the parade so I may not actually read them! :)

Look... It is what it is. Entertainment... Nothing more, nothing less. You don't like it, don't watch it. Yes, it may be overblown, but like I said, so is the world of sports entertainment. I personally don't watch AI and I don't plan to anytime soon but I think some people over react a little bit to stuff like this. She's a hometown girl (plus her and her family go to my church)... Show her some love and let her have her 15 minutes.

Not that I'm not one of the people who do the same, but just replace "AI" with NFL, and you are talking about everyone on this board.

Wow, I totally plagerized you, Ds! My bad... I hadn't even read your comment yet when I posted mine. I agree with you wholdheartedly!

From Darren Urban's Blog in the East Valley Tribune:

Leinart the American Idol

May 11, 2007

For those of you who watch "American Idol" (which, since my wife hasn't been watching this season, I have not been) know that once the season winds down, the final three contestants are sent to their hometowns to film how they are receive (and to fill an hour-long show when only three singers remain).

That meant the Valley's Jordin Sparks came back to town. And I just heard from XTRA 910's Mike Jurecki that Sparks arrived at ClearChannel's studios (in a motorcade fir for a star) and got a surprise visit from Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart. Apparently, Sparks swooned with excitement when she got to meet one of her idols.

Leinart's birthday is today -- he turned 24 -- and Sparks asked the "Idol" camera crew if it was OK to sing him Happy Birthday. Here's a guess we see that performance on the next "Idol" episode.

Fantastic PR for the team. Way to latch on to that, Cardinals.

Maybe you don't need me to do your marketing and PR. :(

You don't want the drop in pay that goes along with professional sports marketing.

I know, I know. But, there's something to be said for doing something because it energizes you and not just for a paycheck.

I thought that was a urban legend, like Santa, the Easter Bunny and 10-6.

Jordin sang Happy Birthday to Matt in the studio. Here are some pictures.

I heard her interview yesterday and must say was quite impressed. She seems like a genuinely cool girl. So I change my stance on her news worthyness. Go Jordan!

see for Gee I can understand cheering on for someone from the block but the throngs of lemmings that throws themselves on the feet of Aiken or any of these other people is disgusting to me

conversely the lemmings would be astonished that we would throw ourselves at the feet of our beloved cards especially since they give us very little in return,

besides if you ever watch the rockstar series, its much better than american idol,
at least they don't have never was has beens like barry manilow on there and spend a whole hour singing his forgettable music,

From that perspective, what cultural, moral or ethical value does sex have? Should we just quite having it because it doesn't advance the education of the human race? It's entertainment Stronso. Entertainment doesn't have to teach. It just needs to be enjoyed.

Yeah, well Barry Manilow might be a has been to you, but some of us realize that he's twice the entertainer any of the current crop of singers could hope to be. :exitstageleftmumblingaboutlackofrespectofcurrentgeneration:
