I've been as big a CP backer as there is but he just doesn't look right to me and doesn't look like the same confident QB we've seen the last 2+ years. He looks to be rushing himself and his footwork has been very sloppy.

Maybe coming off his first concussion and having an interior OL of Shipley, Wentzel, and Watford made him skittish but he definitely doesn't look like the same guy back there.

Last year, he would always seem to be on the attack no matter who/what defense was out there. This year, it seems get the ball out as quickly as possible and just seems like he's apprehensive.

I hope it's just a phase.

He has looked a tad rusty, but late in the game he got into a rhythm and looked like the CP of last year. Hopefully this was the turn around game the team needed.

jets were really coming after him in the 2nd half, and I don't think we did a particularly good job of protecting him.

But no turnovers for CP3 though, and that's what's most important.

I'm guessing the first concussion and not being sure he was going to be able to step up with both starting G's played a big role. He definitely wasn't himself, he wasn't bad but he wasn't as confident in the pocket as he usually is.

I think DJ in particular was trying to get him killed out there, so he got rattled in the 1st half. There was a stretch of three straight plays where DJ completely whiffed in 1-on-1 protection to let the rusher have a free run at CP.

Edit: I mean Humphries, of course, not THE DJ :)

I think the struggles in pass pro has been a huge issue in why Palmer & the offense looks different. Throw in 3 new Oline starters & there's you problem IMO. Palmer has had guys around his feet & taking shots all year long.

But I do agree his footwork has been shotty & inconsistent, which I believe are related to pressure on the QB.

This is pure speculation, but I'm wondering if Palmer's arm isn't as strong as it was last season. Going into 2015, he was rehabbing his ACL injury & also did a lot of work to strengthen his throwing arm and he had an MVP year. Maybe he came into this season thinking he would still be that same player from last year without working as hard in the offseason? I don't know... it just seems like his deep passes have been underthrown so far this year. The Jaron Brown 50+ yd TD is the only break away TD that we've had so far... I don't know if we've completed any other throws beyond 25+ yds.

Arians still gives the inclination that Palmer is the hardest working gym rat on the team

The interior pass blocking was poor, and as a result, Palmer didnt have a clean pocket to step up in. When he can step up ion the pocket, his mechanics are flawless and his passes are crisps. He threw a deep pass to Fitz on a go route and overthrew him because he threw off his back foot with pressure in his face.

Also, I think BA tailored his game plan on offense because he knew Bowles had in depth knowledge of his playbook. Instead of chucking the ball deep all the time, most of the routes were intermediate, particularly that one drive in which John Brown caught 4-5 passes on the right side. At first, I thought it was strange because the Jets secondary is doo doo and its run defense is stout, but he chose to feature David Johnson anyway, and it turned out to be successful.

Either way, I'm not down on Palmer at all. He didn't have a bang up game, but I believe it was by design.

That's what's surprising though because he understands he's getting older & that he doesn't have much time left so you would expect him to work even harder for the chance at a superbowl ring.

I know he didn't play much in pre-season so there is an out-off-sync rust factor, but he's 5 games in now so he should've shaken it off by now. Floyd, John Brown & JJ Nelson definitely haven't helped him out at all though. Still, if you're going to throw 50/50 balls to John Brown or JJ Nelson then that's a bad decision from the start (just like deep corner fades in the end zone)... especially into double coverage.

Maybe the answer is just that his age is creeping up on him & no matter how hard he works out, he doesn't have the same arm strength.

I was happy to see him get in a rythym in the second half, but he really hasn't looked close to the legit MVP candidate he was last season.

I thought the same thing last night: in the second half, it was drop, set and throw with authority and rythym

He definitely warmed up in the second half because his 10-20yrd outs were money and those are some of the hardest trows to make.
