So what do you think he can offer that can realistically climb from 27 to say, 5 or 6?

Even in a pupu platter offering there has to be a central piece to entice someone giving up the shot at a very talented player.

Smart is not a centerpiece

Rosier is marginal and a soon to be free agent

He’s not trading Tatum

Not trading kyrie or the Hayward, and both coming off injuries so not centerpieces either.

Sacramento pick is a year later in a worse draft and variable given no one knows if they’ll improve.

The Griz pick is also a year away and likely worse than whatever pick the celts trade for this year as the Griz are almost certain to be better next year and it’s a weaker draft.

Jaylen seems like the most likely piece available to move when you think about it.

Remember, it’s not what ainge wants to give up, it’s what the receiving team needs to receive to entice it to drop over 20 spots from a position of strength in a stellar draft.

They aren’t moving up.

How is Brown the odd man out?

Kyrie - PG
Brown - SG
Hayward - SF
Tatum - PF
Hortford - C

That's a possible lineup of death right there if Kyrie and Hayward are healthy and Tatum and Brown take another step, as young players that talented normally do.

I didn't realize that Stevens played Brown at SG all season. In the playoffs without Kyrie he was starting Rozier and Smart together once Smart returned. Stevens shuffles their lineups a fair bit but it doesn't seem to effect them much at all. They're really a next man up type of team.

He had Brown at SG for the Cavs series also but that made more sense with the Cavs lineup being a little bigger.

I'm not sure why you're asking the question. Why would Ainge want to break up this team? They just made a heck of a run even thought they were short two studs.

IF Danny is trading Jaylen it's for a vet star like KAT or Davis. It doesn't make any sense to trade an up and coming star (who potentially is the best player on the team) for a younger prospect. Why start over again?

They only brought back 4 players from the team that made the ECF the year before, who were also the #1 seed in the East. Ainge tinkers a lot. It's far from guaranteed the Celtics will look the same next year. The 4 players they kept were Brown, Smart, Rozier, and Horford. Everyone else was in their 1st year in Boston. They lost Crowder, IT, Bradley, and Amir Johnson, who were all starters. They also lost Olynyk and Jerebko. Horford was the only returning starter, Brown covered for injuries but only started 20 games. They didn't miss a beat.

Huh? I’m asking the question because the Celtics are rumored to want to move up for Bamba.

I get it... but to me it just equates to one more writer I can safely ignore.

Boston is one of the destinations that a project center makes abosolutly no sense for.

Looking at Boston's cap sitatuion it wouldn't surprise me if they are looking for a pick to take Bamba. They don't have much flexibility. They're paying Horford, Hayward, and Irving big bucks but the rest of the team is making anywhere between 2 and 6 million a year. So unless they traded Horford I can't see them adding a big this summer. They could probably work out a deal with the Clippers for DeAndre Jordon if he opts out of his current contract but that's probably the only way, in a sign and trade so they don't need to send out quite as much in salary.

Here is their cap situation next year, they're capped out but everyone is basically on rookie deals.

Don't see it for DeAndre. That team excels spreading the floor and he's a liability on offense.

Horford and Hayward will either be off the books or have one year left when they young guys will need to get paid. I’m guessing they will let Brown and Tatum hit RFA and match so they’re not paying huge max deals.

He's also an elite pick setter/rim-runner. They have enough shooters around a Kyrie / DeAndre pick and roll that would make it a steady stream of open 3s or rim runs by Kyrie / DeAndre.

Because Ainge has the gift of foresight and knows he's going to need someone to match up against Embiid and the other rising big men.

Vegas has the highest odds on LeBron going to Philly and they'll have to deal with a line-up of Simmons, Fultz, James, Saric, Embiid.

Simmons would be reduced to Andre Roberson if he plays with Lebron. He not only can’t shoot but needs the ball.

Yeah I really don't get why people think LeBron would join the Sixers. He and Simmons are both guys who need the ball in their hands and you're clearly not telling LeBron to play off the ball so Simmons can have it so what does Simmons do?

They said that about Wade too.

But Wade was a scorer, Simmons isn't.

Simmons is a terrific player but he has shown absolutely no ability to play without the ball

Wade had a mid-range game and forced a defender out on him allowing Lebron space to work. He could also run off screens catch and shoot. Simmons not only can’t shoot outside of 10 ft but he won’t attempt them at all.

The thing that worries people about Simmons is he had a full year off and didn’t make any strides with his shot. He’s a terrible FT shooter and may be shooting with the wrong hand.

The Sixers are not going to tell LeBron to buzz off because Simmons is in the way. If it really seemed like they couldn't make it work together then I expect they'd trade Simmons.

He is a really good player but a truly atrocious shooter, puts a cap on how much of an impact he can make and especially in the clutch he becomes a borderline detriment if the Sixers are behind.

If he can't get to be even mediocre as a shooter then he will not continue in his pseudo point guard roll and will instead turn into more of a traditional big man, just with great passing skills.

If they can't beat Lebron with this putrid Cleveland team, they have ZERO chance against him in Philly. I get the concept of taking a step back to take two steps forward. But trading Brown for another 18 year old is taking 5 steps back and MAYBE taking 5 steps forward. It's not a smart move.

Ainge's best shot of beating Lebron... is getting Lebron. Do what it takes.

You are overlooking the fact that Boston was missing their two best players and still nearly beat Cleveland.

Agree. Boston is going to be an awesome team when Hayward and Irving return.

That Tatum kid is pretty good as well.

Yes. I think. However, you can only play five on floor at a time. So, are those two missing players that significantly better than their replacements. We do not know really with Hayward. Kyre, yes, except for his defense.

I see what you are saying but three stars can do a lot of damage especially if they are coached up to play defense.

Kyrie is definitely better than Rozier and Smart, who covered for his absence, but whether Hayward is that much better than Tatum is questionable. Having another scorer like Tatum to bring off the bench will be huge for them though. That makes them deeper right away. Hayward was coached by Stevens in college and I imagine Stevens will find a way to use him that makes him more valuable than Tatum once he returns. He may even be able to start them together, who knows. The Celtics will be deeper and have more experienced players with those 2 back which will be important for their postseason run next year. I'd say that their young talent could be better after having been to back to back ECF's but Brown, Smart, and Rozier are the only young players that have been to both. Tatum is a rookie and everyone else is new.

I believe someone mentioned that the Celtics might be interested in Bamba. If it were true, this is why... to protect the rim.
