My dad is a slave to Century Link because he fears if he changes providers, he'll lost the msn.com address he's used for his business for 10 years. I thought msn.com addresses were available for free, but he's certain he's not.

Anyone know how to navigate this? Is there a way to keep his msn.com address and change ISPs?

There is a MSN premium account so it should be possible.

He will probably have to pay for the service separately (9.95/mo). Once the billing is moved away from Century Link then you should be able to manage it separately and it won't matter what ISP you use.

However, I have had some nightmares with MSN support in the past so good luck. I would contact them directly and see what they say.

I found a number at the MSN support site 1-866-205-6768.

I can still access my old MSN account with no issues and I haven't had any ties to them in many years. I just use my same info through Hotmail.

So silly question.

If your dad has a business and relies on email, why doesn't he have his own domain? It is cheap and you can change ISPs all you want, just change the forwarding.

He should be able to access the msn email after switching. He may need to change his email servers if he uses a client side app such as Outlook. Or use webmail.

But, as mentioned he should get his own domain name. He doesn't even need to build a site. Most web hosts nowadays offer email only services. I've seen some around $1.50/mo. Domain names are about $10-12/yr.

Although it's weird since it seems most isp'd don't dissolve email addy's anymore. I can still access send/recieve from my old qwest email and haven't used them in 3yrs.

My dad is 65. Since I have no intention of being the guy he calls everyday with inane technical questions every 6-year-old knows, I need to find a solution that comes with tech support.

He barely knows how to do e-mail and hates every single minute of it.

You should be able to move that address to a free hotmail account. The MSN premium is the paid option as well.
