Bears | Angelo Impressed with Robertson - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
15:53 PT: ChicagoBears.com reports Chicago Bears GM Jerry Angelo is impressed with Kentucky DT Dewayne Robertson and is excited about the chance to draft him. "(He's) very explosive, can rush the passer, can disrupt the run; there's nothing he can't do," Angelo said. "He's short-that would be his only drawback. But when you look at the (Warren) Sapps and the (Anthony) McFarlands at that position, that's not a big deal. In fact, it might play in his favor."

While I do agree with you that it may be a smokescreen, don't be shocked if they did draft DT in round 1...especially with Traylor certainly being cut and there have been rumblings Ted Washington could be cut (I personally doubt this but...) Bears fans should be nervous also.

Chicago will draft Leftwich IMO.

I don't know where the would play him, since drafting him to play nose tackle would be downright silly. With the Texans playing a 3-4, Robertson wouldn't make as much of an impact, so they really shouldn't even think about him.

There was an article on ESPN Insider concerning some coach/former player that the Bears put on staff. I forget his name, but he was a smallish, pass-rushing DE that was "too small" to play his position. That caused the Insider to speculate that the Bears might be drafting Suggs, and hiring this guy to tutor him.

For what it's worth...

Richard Dent.My question is why would the Bears want Terrell Suggs since they drafted Alex Brown last year?

Cause he never really made a "Dent" in the opposition's offensive line... Heh, heh, heh...

There are some who say Robertson would make a good NT. He's never played it and it's primarily his lack of height that makes people say that.

Terrific player, amazing the day the kid announced the reports I posted said 2nd rounder possible late first if works out well. Now the 4th pick in the draft is a distinct possibility. Really is remarkable how much kids move up and down each year before the draft, when Brandt said Robertson would wind up going top 10 I thought he was reaching, now he could go top 5.

Alex Brown started 9 games last season and had 2.5 sacks and 40 tackles. The other DE are both under 30 years old. Both DT are well over 30.I have read that the Bears want to upgrade the DT spot. That said who knowsv where Suggs will go?

Which is why I say the Bears could very well draft DT in round 1. They have Phillip Daniels as their other DE and has been widely seen as a bust in CHI. That is why the Suggs choice may make sense for them...especially since they have very little money tied up in Brown they wouldn't be placing too much cap space in the position.

Robertson and Washington up front, would make Urlacher a lot better player.

I dont see how Chicago can pass on Leftwich if he is there....Obviously Kordell is not there long-term answer....just as Blake is not the Cards long term answer either.

Because this is a "deep" QB draft and a decent QB will be there for them in round 2. We all know you don't have to have a franchise type QB to win a Super Bowl so they can draft D (which is the Bears) and go QB in round 2. Admittedly the feeling is after Palmer/Leftwich there is a dropoff but I doubt that concerns them. CHI is a running ball, playing defense team and therefore it is likely there will go D at #4...JMHO
