He doesn't have control over the personnel which really was his downfall with the Eagles. He got rid of lots of quality players. It will be interesting to see if he learned anything from the mistakes he made with the Eagles.
He rail-roaded the front office in Philly and I can't imagine any GM wanting to hire him, so that shows you who is in control in SF. And him being in charge of personnel might not be out of the question.

I'm all for this. Whatever keeps the whiner fans sulking is fine with me.

Not so sure Kaepernick will be Kelly's QB. Could see him make a move for RG III. Could see him take one of the top QBs in the draft, Jared Goff (California) or Paxton Lynch (Memphis). Plus---Sam Bradford is a UFA.

It would be ironic if he could somehow make it work in San Fran.

I'm sure he's going to give CK a shot to be his system QB

Edited from CP to CK.

I can't imagine any free agents signing there without being grossly overpaid.

I think it is funny how you all think it is funny that the guy who is most effective in the league using a mobile QB just took a job in our division. Do you all remember what we looked like trying to tackle Kaepernick when Harbaugh let him run around.

Say what you want, but our division just got another really good coach whose strength hits us right where we are weakest. At LB.

Here we go. He is gonna try and resurect Kap and that team. He's gonna destroy another team. The 49ers had a great coach (Harbaugh) and they couldn't make it work. Glad it was Kelly. Hopefully, Kelly doesn't find a way to bring the 9ers back

It just might work with Kap running it.

Yep... Question will be, has there been too much damage done to Kap's psyche. Can he return to the QB he was under Harbaugh. I would think so, but, ya never know... #wishfulthinking

Man, the NFC West certainly has a bunch of characters - probably the biggest bunch of characters in all the NFL, with BA, Petey, Fish and now Chip.
We are indeed the WILD West!

Listening to the 49er fans who were calling in to the NFL network going home today they didn't seem very happy about Chip being the new coach.

Agree, I really think the 49ers will be a better team than most think. Additionally, they have a high draft pick #7 and could go get a quality player.

Jim Harbaugh's "rough" personality wore out the 9ers front office and now they bring in an even worse personality............bwahhhaahahahahahahahahahahah.

Doesn't matter who the DC is he brings in, by the 10th game of the season all the D players will be worn out because they will be averaging 90 snaps per game. FA's on the D side of the ball will not sign with the 9ers unless they are vastly over paid because Chip kills D players careers. Doesn't matter how many smoothies they drink or what's in them the D will where down and put up craptastic numbers. They will have to use all their draft picks on D players because as I said D FA's won't want to come to the 9ers.

Looking forward to the fireworks between hothead York and disrespectful douchebag Kelly. Unless Chip spends the next several months in intensive therapy and they find the right medications and doses he will destroy the organization like he did in Philly.

I think it is a good move for SF.

For those who're automatically discounting this move, be careful what you all wish for.

Chip Kelly is one of the smartest coaches in football; and his offense, albeit unconventional, is very effective and forces DCs to gameplan much differently than with other offenses. Kelly has proven that he can take any QB, regardless of fit, and make them productive.

Guess what? Now he has a QB in Kaepernick whose skillset is tailormade for his offense. With a true running threat behind center, he can open up his entire playbook like he did with Mariota at Oregon.

He took a 4-12 Eagles team and made them a 10-6 division winning team in one season. He's 27-20 overall as a head coach. As I already mentioned, his pitfall was when he took on too much responsibility. Now, he is focused solely on coaching and game planning, not the head man for personnel decisions.

This was a very good hire for the 49ers, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were a 9-10 win team by next season.
