But why trade Chriss, when you could just let him expire next summer? Instead, we get two players, one of which makes what BOTH Chriss and Knight make in a single year.

And Woj is adamantly saying that Anderson will start. Huh?
There's many ways to look at this, and all I can say is De'Anthony Melton must be a really hidden gem that the Rockets do not realize they have after seeing him in their own practices.

Looks like Melton tore up the summer league with the Rockets. Everything im reading on him saying great defender and passer.

Still you can't go with all that youth at PG.

He is literally worse than Bender. He is Bender without defense. They MUST be really high on Melton, but they drafted Okobo over him, so that doesn't make sense either.

Rockets aren't interested in prospects there in win now mode.

Even if that were true, you take on Knight and Chriss in win now mode?

I wouldn't get rid of Ariza and Mba Moute for Carmelo either

Or sign ancient Chris Paul to that contract

But who knows

I am stumped unless De'Anthony is a real stud we want, even though we passed him up, and if he is that good, then he would be better for the Rockets than trading for Knight and Chriss. Both sides seem to be drinking on the job.

I guess at the end of the day I am not excited that this is the big trade we were waiting for. The only thing I can see is both Knight and Chriss were viewed negatively. We got rid of those "problems" so now that opens the board up when we make the NEXT trade?

Maybe we look at this like chess, looking two or three moves ahead?

Yup, this is an all-time what the bleep trade, unless there is something else coming on the heels of it that we haven't heard.

As much as Chriss and Knight are reviled around here, I would still rather have either or both than Anderson at his bloated contract. Even if they follow this up with a great trade AND still keep Anderson, I would be disgusted - that is how bad Anderson is. I don't have a clue what they are thinking.

And if the object was to get Melton, why not just trade for the pick to get him during the draft?

I have to assume there is something else in the works, or I agree that McDonough just may have passed a bridge too far regarding his future as GM here.

This should be a lesson for the whole league.

Never ever draft two prospects that play the same position with picks that aren't at least 20 spots apart.

It will never end well.

What the actual F?!? Seriously, those two guys are not big losses but what we received in return? I was just getting ready to hit the pillow when I read this.

There has to be more to this or something else in the works. What the hell?

The Suns got the best player in this deal.

On draft night I looked at it that they need a guy at that position to pan out and the Suns doubled their chances to get that guy. Chriss looked better at first. Bender I still say has basic skills that are unique. A seven footer that can go from the key and close out to the three point line is rare. A seven footer that has nimble enough foot work to guard guys like guards and small forwards without letting them go around him, is a unique talent.

Maybe this. Still supposedly the Suns were supposed to be moving towards freeing up space for a max deal free agent next season. That we took on more money seems to refute that.

I'm not sure I understand what all the yammering is about here. The Suns got the two best players out of the deal. Both Knight and Chriss were mistakes. Not that it's a huge upgrade or anything.

The most valuable piece of the trade was 2019 capspace, I don't think anyone is upset about Chriss and Knight being shipped.

Not sure why everyone is so upset over this.

I actually do think Knight will be a good fit in Houston, if he can every stay healthy. Ideally, he provides some upside off the bench at guard, can hit from three, plus has his moments getting to the rim. Never been a fan of Chriss, so I think thats addition by subtraction alone. Hes a solid buy low in Houston's system though.

Anderson makes a lot of sense considering the way the roster is currently constructed. Suns have more than enough defense right now. They need to keep building out the spacing, and Anderson will slide into that role quite well. Not to mention, if you play him with Ayton, the two can easily switch defensive assignments based on match ups. Suns have Anderson covered on the wing and in the post defensively, so hes a solid fit in my mind. The extra ~$5.5 mil the Suns lose in flexibility next summer is inconsequential right now.

Adding Melton is another a good move. Quality perimeter defender, and a guy who looks like yet another Drew Hanlen success story (one of the best shooting coaches in the world). I like Melton, although I question what he provides the Suns the next few years. Luckily, he has some shot creators next to him, plus a switchy defensive scheme, a primary ball handler, and plenty of spacing. He would have been better off in Houston, developing slowing around all that talent, but the Suns offer more minutes in a hopefully friendly environment.

Quality deal for both teams, IMO.

That might very well be true but is that saying much still? Not so sure. This seems like a very odd trade when your need is PG. Right now this looks like a bad trade unless there is something else brewing.
