This is bizarre. Suns have a Ryan Anderson on the roster already. He also plays a bit of defense, is eight years younger, and makes 20% or so of what Anderson makes. I don't get this at all.

This trade doesn’t seem significant enough to truly warrant a freak out. I never felt the Suns would be FA players so taking on extra $ for a prospect doesn’t concern me. However I don’t think the Suns are done yet.

so you trade them to detriment of the salary cap? doesn't make sense.
Exactly. Doesn't make sense.

Just spitballing here, Kemba is only making 12m on the final year of his deal, but Marvin Williams, who would almost certainly be the throw-in in any deal, makes 14m, but with a 15m player option, which he almost 100% certain to exercise. Using Ryan Anderson in such a deal doesn't seem to be very desirable. At least, I'd probably stick with Kemba and Williams instead.

Am I nuts to think we could have done a similar deal with the Clippers to get Shai instead?

How could this lead to another deal? There are no more tradable assets, Knight and Chriss were the most expendable assets with some value.

Absolutely dumbfounded...

Not really. Most expendable, maybe. But Warren is also expendable and a much nicer trade piece. This move does nothing for our PG problem this season or our logjam at SF.

Of course no mention that Anderson makes 20m per year for 2 more years...

Bordow is speculating that there is another move. There has to be.

On it's own this deal is as bad as the deal to acquire Knight, which is easily the worst in McDonough's tenure.

God ive never been more disappointed in a prospect more than Chriss.

Really good rookie year then the switch just turned off for him. The gaining weight the pouting on the court the just lack of basketball IQ.

I felt Chriss was a trade chip but you weren't gonna get anything for Knight anyway

Ugh

I just don't see that. We gave up nothing of value for something that on the surface appears to be negative value. Not a big deal, just bewildering IMO.

Still usually when a team takes on more salary in a trade, either the players they receive are deemed superior, or they get a trade pick to make up for the difference. Still not sure how this make strategic sense for the Suns.

It’s a good point. If they loved Melton they could’ve taken him.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on this deal and McD’s legacy

Still, even if they ARE disasters, you don't make a trade that lessons your team albeit even if they are disasters. There's mixed reviews on the combo guard De'Anthony Melton. Anderson is way off the timeline the Suns keep saying they are trying to match with the team. I can see if you think that older player has a skill you really need. This does not seem to be the case.

But why trade Chriss, when you could just let him expire next summer? Instead, we get two players, one of which makes what BOTH Chriss and Knight make in a single year.

And Woj is adamantly saying that Anderson will start. Huh?

They could have "moved on" by waiving both. They would have about as much talent and less money committed in salary.

I'm not sure I understand what all the yammering is about here. The Suns got the two best players out of the deal. Both Knight and Chriss were mistakes. Not that it's a huge upgrade or anything.
