There is talk about the Warriors buying out Laettner's final year after they trade Dampier to Dallas.

He would be a guy that we should probably look at for the veteran minimum anyway. He can backup Amare or maybe even play some center?

I hate Laettner, but I agree he'd be a terrific pickup for the minimum. Chances are someone will offer him more (like the $1.6 million exception), but maybe not.

I don't see him playing in the NBA next year.

I am with you. Just something about Laettner is irritating. He would be a better backup than say Zarko though.

Isn't the veteran minimum about 1.6M$ also?

I hate to say this also - but Laettner at the vet minimum would be a great pick up.

I thought it was just over $1 million, but you could be right.

Three Olympians on one team. Wow.

LOL, and I can just imagine Laettner getting all superior about how "his" Dream Team got the job done, while Marion's and Stoudemire's fell on their asses.

Did Nash's teams ever qualify for the Olympics? Dunno. Anyway, yeah. Laettner will have some bragging rights come November.

is laettner more of a PF or a C?

I'd love to have him if he would play backup PF. If he played center Lampe would get 0 pt.

I think there is a good reason why Laettner has been traded twice in the past few months. He has a reputation for being locker room poison. This goes along with losing a great number of games last season (I presume to injuries).

I remember a year ago reading rumors that the Wizzards were shopping him inspite of putting up OK numbers in 2002-03. It was suggested that he was messing with K Brown's head in much the same way Penny messed with JJ. Rather than being a mentor, he tried to undercut Brown at every opportunity as well as causing division. If he is cut by the Warriors, that will be the reason.

IMO I'd rather have Scott Williams, Williams has been on team and hasn't had any problems and can go on IR.

They did In 2000 in Sydney. Canada actually did pretty good. They started off 3-0, finished 5-2 in seventh place. I think it was their best finish in International basketball.

They just barely missed qualifying for Greece, when they lost to Purto Rico last year for the last spot.

And one of the main reasons they did not qualify was because Nash wasn't playing last summer in the Olympic Qualifying tournament. Neither did Magloire, IIRC.

I wonder how todd maccullouch (sp?) is doing...

This is a great idea...if it was 1991 and our schedule consisted of Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, and Clemson. I'd rather see Lampe and Vroman get some PT this year than that clown Laettner, at least they have somewhat of an upside.

i wouldn't mind signing laettner for the vet minimum. he could add experience and a legit threat at center for some minutes drawing some attention from amare. however, if he's as bad a lockerroom presence as everyone is saying (and i have a hard time beleiving he's still so damn cocky after all these years), then we're prolly better off w/o him.
