Christian Yelich arrived at Yankee Stadium for Opening Day on Thursday with some top-shelf threads ... or should we say "front row" threads?
The Milwaukee Brewers posted a video to their X account showing players arriving at Yankee Stadium for the first game of the 2025 season, and Yelich is adorned in an all-plaid suit, which would fit perfectly as an homage to Bob Uecker.
Uecker, famous for his plaid sport coats — so much so that the team will honor Uecker this season with a plaid jersey patch — died in January, 10 days before turning 91 years old, after a battle with small cell lung cancer.
Yelich had formed a bond with the legendary radio host and face of the Brewers franchise. When the team was eliminated from the playoffs against the Mets, Yelich gave an emotional postgame interview in which he said his postgame conversation with Uecker was the toughest part of the night.
"All the other stuff is what it is," Yelich said. "It's a tough way for your season to end, but talking to 'Uecky' one-on-one was tough."
Uecker's diagnosis wasn't made public until his death.
Yelich posted a moving tribute to Uecker after the broadcaster's death and has used a custom Bob Uecker bat in spring training. The Brewers will begin the first season in 55 years without Uecker on the airwaves with a 2 p.m. CT first pitch at Yankee Stadium.
