We were 9 & 1 last season, and the bottom fell out...
We're 9 & 2. CJ goes down. Ellington goes down. Powers goes down and we'll now be looking at a WR playing nickel corner... Coop is out. Frostee is out. Redding is out...
This is just so Cardinal-esque... Dammit!

Big difference is that last season we lost the biggest piece of the puzzle and still managed to win a couple of games, one against a very tough KC team. We still have Palmer. That's the key.

We are still pretty healthy overall. Its likely that Rucker, Cooper, Stinson, and Redding will be back and practicing this week. Cooper and Stinson both had at least one limited practice last week.

That leaves us really without Powers (who we can afford to miss this week)
Johnson and Ellington. It's not the end of the world and hopefully they can get healthy in time for the playoffs.

Overall we are a relatively healthy team.

Forget for a minute that CJ got hurt. The entire design of the play is stupid.

It's highly unlikely we're going to throw a forward pass to Palmer he's too valuable to the team to risk him getting hit in that scenario.

So if you're covering him you have only 2 thoughts, they might throw a quick backwards pass and then he throws a forward pass, I've seen that but pretty rare, or I'm not going to cover him I'm coming away from him and go somewhere else.

So we created by design, an extra defender for them. Then, we ran RIGHT INTO the extra defender. If you run that play away, to the other side, it's just a normal play, but running to Palmer side you're running right into the extra defender you gave them so it's almost guaranteed to not work.

Just a really dumb play and then you compound it with the guy getting hurt on the play.
BA calls many so-called dumb plays every game. But they all have value. You have to put stuff on tape this time of year, considering the playoffs are approaching. Playoff coaches this time of year spend all their time studying opponent tape, that's all they do. The more tape, the more different formations, play calls, and situational calls BA makes, the more difficult it is to game plan against. You can overload a coach with tape by not tipping off tendencies.

And that's just the tape BA is putting out there purposefully. We have no idea what he's got in his hip pocket nobody even knows about yet, that's saved for playoff time.

As long as BA doesn't tip tendencies and preferences in the tape he puts out there then it's all good. We ran and ran on 3rd down yesterday, earlier in the year we passed and passed on 3rd and short. The same people complained in both situations. That's what BA wants, that uncertainty. It creates chaos for opposing coaches this time of year.

Players get hurt, it shouldn't effect what BA is doing at all. Can't play scared, you either want to win it all or you don't.

Wasn't Shane Draughn on our PS earlier this year? I liked him coming out of North Carolina and think he'd have been a good fit if the Cards would kept him.

edit: my bad, I was getting him confused with Mike Gillislee who I also liked.

When I first saw the formation my fear was the 49ers are going to come up and drill Palmer because he's fair game lined up at WR. In a sense we got lucky they didn't.

David Johnson is no AP but he is a very good young running back.

I think him being forced to start now is actually a positive.

I agree with this for two reasons: it allows him to develop some for the playoffs and it allows CJ to get his legs under him for a playoff run.

Hey did you guys hear that CJ being out just killed the Cardinals and our shot at the Superbowl?

http://espn.go.com/blog/arizona-car...n-cardinals-lose-run-game-and-super-bowl-shot

Weinfuss never misses an opportunity to be a true Cardinal hater.

Dont get me wrong, CJ has been good and we will miss him, but this is NOTHING like losing Palmer and it does not kill our hopes of a super bowl. Talk about jumping to freaking conclusions.

In years past the injuries to Cardinal players wouldn't be a blip on the screen. On MNF half time show they mentioned how injuries have hurt our RB corp and even showed a clip of CJ getting hurt. My how times have changed.

It definitely hurts... And the combo
Platter with Ellington dinged up hurts as well, but this isn't a death knell.

That said, lots of people were saying last night that if Gronk was done the Pats would be screwed and would likely say the same if Jonathan Stewart went down.

Johnson was a big part of the O. Just gotta hope it's now time for the rook to blow everyone away.

In fairness, though, Gronk is the last viable player that Brady can throw too right now. That's why his injury could be more devastating, if he misses more than a game.

He's run like **** the past four games, yet, we still have won.

Honestly, he was not going to produce much more down the home stretch. The injury sucks because our depth takes a hit. What's more disconcerting is that Ellington is not there to replace him.

High and tight, David Johnson. High and tight.

RB is probably the easiest position to get an adequate replacement.

However, as was pointed out in the article, the real blow will be teams not respecting the run like they did with CJ back there and that will be another obstacle for the passing game.

Picking up the blitz crosses one's mind because usually it is the most difficult thing for a rookie to pick up but it is not that which has me concerned... DJ has great attributes of size and speed but fumbling might be a weakness and if he can hold on to the ball the Cardinals might be forced into seeing something special :)

I'll only refer to the initials because I'm not certain you're allowed to mention his name but if CJ is done for the year can we consider RR?

This was my first thought as well. I was thinking get this on tape so when the time comes that we need a 2 point conversion we have Stanton throw it to palmer, when the DB falls for the fake hand-off. If I remember correctly Drew has come in before on a two point conversion attempt and threw it. Which just add another wrinkle to the play.

I don't know. I feel that if teams start doing that, DJ is going to slice through them and make defenses pay.

that fractured leg will likely have CJ2K out about 6 weeks on the low side...8 weeks before he might get a few snaps......he is likely going to IR would be my guess....unless they have serious faith in his ability to heal quickly....... that opens a roster spot to bring someone up to help out while Juke heals up.

I like starting the rookie,....there are things about the NFL game he may as well learn now....like, run hard,...hit him before he hits you,...play to the whistle...and protect your QB or the season is going nowhere..............................everyone plays harder this time of year...by starting now the kid will have to work harder for his yards than 8 weeks ago,...it is good for a RB to learn that way, make them expect to have to run hard
