I think our best RB will start the rest of the season and has fresh legs to do it. CJ did a great job for us and DJ has had plenty of time to learn the offense and get comfortable. I fully believe our running game will be better with DJ starting.

I'm hoping that we have everybody back healthy for the playoffs. We should have a first round bye so the players should be able to heal up.

It's a real conundrum for the Cardinals. Do you IR CJ or carry him on the roster while he heals. Hard to justify giving up a roster spot until the end of the season especially with Ellington hurt too. You can't go into games with just DJ and Taylor as your only RBs. Maybe they release Red Bryant and bring up Williams which would allow them to wait on CJ as they can always IR him later if they need to. If CJ can heal in 6 weeks, he would be available for the first playoff game assuming the Cardinals get a first round bye.

RB is probably the easiest position to get an adequate replacement.

However, as was pointed out in the article, the real blow will be teams not respecting the run like they did with CJ back there and that will be another obstacle for the passing game.

The problem there is the way Arians plays the RB HAS to be good at blitz pickup. That's why DJ can't play more as the Weinfuss article mentions, he is missing blitz pickups and hot reads like a rooke often does. A veteran will be better but brand new to the offense so you almost have to stay in house with DJ, Taylor and Kerwynn.

Arians loves to have the option of Palmer flipping to a pass play if the defense dictates, to do that you need a RB you trust to pick up the block. Also CJ was making teams honor the run which opened up the pass game.

It's a big loss, we're not dead because of it but it limits some of what we can do on offense.

My guess is we'll be much more pass oriented without him, try to be like the Patriots a bit and throw on run downs.

I think they take the week to assess their options but ultimately IR him to bring Williams up. Williams will get quality snaps this week in practice to prep for the Rams (he rushed 15 times for 75 yards against them last year).

I suspect you are correct. All the teams in the NFL have battled injuries this year so to me it really means the NFL must address increasing the roster to at least 55 from the present 53. Even two more spots would help many teams out there and the cost would be minimum. The 54 and 55 spots would only need at most another $1.5-#2.0 million increase to the cap to account for it. The 54 and 55 player is going to be a several hundred thousand salary. Hell they could even make these two spots flex spots that do not have to be filled every game.

While they are at it they should consider copying baseball and initiate a disable list with different lengths instead of a shorten IR list. A guy gets hurt and has to miss a couple of games he goes on a 15 day DL. You get to bring up a PS player to fill the spot and then send them back down when the player comes off the DL. They could have a 30, 45 and 60 day DL too. You can still keep the IR for players you know are finished for the season. Baseball moves players up and down to/from the minors and the PS is essentially the NFL AAA farm club. You move a guy up twice and he gets regular roster salary when he gets moved back down or you just keep him in one of the two flex spots. The NFL really needs to get more flexible here on how they use a PS. And get rid of the inactive list which is just so stupid. The idea that you are paying a player his regular salary and can't use him in a game is just moronic.

They have already butchered most traditions so why hang on to these? I don't understand why owners would have a problem with any of these ideas, especially the inactive game day since they are already paying the guy so why not get some production out of him instead of paying him to sit on the bench.

I wish I had the faith in DJ many of you seem to have. He has made some special plays but on most traditional runs I haven't seen much to go gaga over. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

I hate the way he carries the ball and wouldn't be surprised to see him cough it up twice during the game...

I am hoping to see Williams get 10-12 carries in the game. I just like this guy. He seems to get something on every run and has some elusiveness. Besides he's so short the defenders can't see him behind the LOS. Sort of a Sproles type of back.

CB Jerraud Powers, DT Frostee Rucker, RB Andre Ellington "will probably miss" Sunday's game against the #Rams, Arians said.

DJ is not really just a rookie anymore he's later into his first season yes and has been playing before and yes he dose miss blitz pickups.

Instead of dumbing down the offense it only requires that you teach him faster that aspect of the game.

It's confusing I am sure however these coaches are not bad coaches and if he gets say 5 plays a game it will matter then I expect they can get him ready for those 5 plays and not miss a beat on what they run.

Where there is a will there is a way.

One major obstacle for any rookie is enduring a 16 game season on such a high level... DJ has played spot duty, the kid is good to go and he is fresh :)
