While neither season ended how fans would've preferred, Clemson basketball and football make for one of the best duos in the country. Collegefootballnews.com released a list of the best football and basketball schools for the 2024-25. The Tigers ranked No. 8.
Only four schools made the College Football Playoffs and the NCAA Tournament: Tennessee, Texas, Oregon, Georgia, and your Clemson Tigers. Unfortunately, all but Texas are ranked higher than Clemson in the rankings, but not by much.
Both teams finished second in the ACC this past season. It took an insane game in Syracuse, N.Y., that catapulted Tigers football into the ACC Championship game. And if it weren't for a last-second, 56-yard field goal — the longest in ACC Championship history — from a unit that struggled all season long, following a series of fortunate events that put the Tigers in a position to win in the first place, Clemson would've gone to a bowl game instead of the CFP for the first time since 2020.
On the other hand, Clemson basketball was arguably the best team in the ACC behind Duke, but at least tied for second place with Louisville. Key wins against Kentucky and Duke played a massive role in Clemson earning a 5-seed in the NCAA tournament.
Sadly, both football and basketball had early-round exists. While Clemson gave Texas the most competitive game of the CFP's first round, it still lost by 14. And basketball had its worst shooting night of the season, scoring only 13 points in the first half. However, the Tigers fell two points short of one of the biggest comebacks in the NCAA Tournament history. If one or both would've squeaked in an extra win, most likely, Clemson would've slid into the top 5.
