...And it was, so my opinion should count even more. Look at it this way, it bodes well for this movie because I said I think it'll be good....just not good enough to warrant all this hype and suspense.
I wasn't being serious...

I still want to see this movie however...

I'm going to expand on something I wrote on another thread.

First of all, I've been really excited about this movie from the get-go. Now, I'm having severe doubts. If J.J. Abrams brings the thing to this movie that killed Lost for me before I could even get into it--the stupid giant whatevers that would be impossible not to see, yet somehow (ONLY explainable by dramatic effect, and not at all realistic) we cannot see them--I'll walk out. If there are giant monsters walking around that we somehow never see, then I'll just roll my eyes and move on. That part of Lost was ********, and it in part made me stop watching early on. Secondly, having the entire movie on hand-held is going to be a pain in the tukus. It was a novelty in Blair Witch that I didn't like, but at leas tipped my hat to for originality. Now I have no desire to see it again. If I want to watch bad quality film, I'll rent Redneck Zombies.

All of that said, I'll go to the theater, and I'll give it a shot. I just hope it lives up to my early expectations, and not down to my new worries.

First, the best horror genre does not reveal the monster. It's a device to create tension. X-Files become a cultural phenomenon for this very reason.

Second, the one thing you can count on with a JJ Abrams vehicle is a good story about flawed humans. I'm going to go see it just for that.

From what I understand there are two types of monsters. The big Godzilla type and an insect type that has been referred to as 'parasite's'. My expectations have gone down on this movie. Several people have stated getting a headache from all the motion.

I also read they spend about 20 minutes introducing you to the characters and then mayhem Godzilla style...

I am going to see the midnight showing tonight simple because I don't want to see any spoilers for this movie. Abram's worked his ass off to keep it secret I don't want some schmuck ruining for me...

That would be me, which is probably why I won't watch it. I tend to get more sick to my stomach, though, as opposed to a headache. I almost never get headaches...

:(

Then I hope something really interesting comes out soon.

Besides, I have about 20 HD movies I need to watch... we will be fine.

Not revealing the monster isn't necessarily a bad thing...not revealing a ginormous monster that is pursuing you and would CLEARLY be seen, and is CLEARLY only not seen because they don't put the camera on it is ********.

A good story about flawed humans is fine. If that's a part of the movie, then great. If that's all it is, and combined with the above, then ugh.

Saw it lastnight and it kicked ass!!!

For those of you who think you will get motion sickness. Don't watch when they are running and blink alot. Seemed to help me with the motion of the camera and the out of focus.

Don't expect alot of detail on how it happened. It starts off as DoD video file being played for research purposes or whatever.

Also, at the end of the movie listed to the theatrical score and give me your opinion...

It sound very similar to all the Godzilla themes mixed and imporved

I really wouldn't mind seeing it again but it is hard on your eyes...

Ha!!! I got an email from all the Ethan Haas crap when Cloverfield first started. Turns out it was prepping for a new RPG called AlphaOmega...

I saw it today, good story, good dialogue, good characters BUT the shaky camera really made me not enjoy the movie. I don't get motion sickness normally..never sea sick, car sick, air sick etc..the only thing that effects me like today is when I try to read in a moving car. Blair Witch gave me a headache this was worse(although this was 100 times the story).

I just wish at the end they would have given a blurb or something of what the creature was or what it took to stop it (if they ever did).

Mild spoilers in your post... :)

But, imo, the ending left the opportunity for a (probably butchered and terrible) sequel.

Well, that doesn't bode well for my concern with this film.

You're probably going to be part of the half in the theater that doesn't like it, then.

The movie was fantastic. You just have to realize that you're NOT supposed to know exactly what's going on. You're seeing the entire film from the perspective of just one person. So you are essentially that person.

My girlfriend hated it because of this. I happened to love the direction they took the movie.

Edit: One more thing: "Not revealing the monster isn't necessarily a bad thing...not revealing a ginormous monster that is pursuing you and would CLEARLY be seen, and is CLEARLY only not seen because they don't put the camera on it is ********."

Trust me. You'll see plenty of the monster. And actually, this was my only complaint with Cloverfield. You actually see too much of it in my opinion. It almost ruins some of the suspense. Other than that I loved the movie.

I think that is what the parasites are for

Stout, just look at this way when you go to see the movie. You are part of the DoD team who is studing the aftermath and this is one of the video files used for your investigation.

Wasted and Portland...am I supposed to look at those spoilers? Those are like teasers :D

Hey, I'm not saying it's a bad thing not to see these things. I just don't want it to be giant monsters right in front of 'em or chasing right behind 'em that the camera somehow doesn't quite catch. That is the cheap and easy way out. If they don't see them because they flee every time they hear the noise...maybe.

Edit: And I am going to see it, by-the-by. Part of a double feature.

Did anyone who has seen this think that Marlena reminded them of Ally Sheedy's character from the Breakfast Club? maybe it was just me
