He at least clarified his continued use of "We're going to keep doing what we know works" as being practices and preparation as opposed to staying with the same schemes and personnel.
The problem is that his personnel decision making has been horrendous and continuing to trot DA out there is akin to forcing us to watch re-runs of an According to Jim marathon.
His continued lack of commitment in the running game doesn't show me that he's willing to change his scheme one iota. We ran the ball 10 times in this game (DA's scramble for 0 yards excluded). Early in the 3rd quarter, Beanie looked like he was starting to get on a roll. We had a drive and in the first four plays he ran the ball 3 times for 17 yards. But the last run of 4 yards was called back for holding on AP...I mean Levi Brown. In the remaining 6 plays of that drive (excluding the punt), we passed 5 times and Beanie ran it one time (In a 2nd and 10 for a loss of 3). I understand the logic that Whisenhunt is using in these situations. We just had a hold and went from a 2nd and 2 to 2nd and 12. If you have a halfway decent QB, your odds are better throwing. However, your running back was looking good and just made a nifty run for 8 yards before the following penalty and your QB has proven to be unreliable, inaccurate and turnover prone.
So why not stay with the hot hand? Up to that point Beanie had touched the ball 3 times (1 bad handoff, 1 nice completion and 1 run of 2 yards). After this possession, Beanie was given the ball just one more time in a 2nd and 16 situation (after DA took a sack to start the drive) and gained 1 yard.
It is simply mind bottling (Thank you Will Ferrell) that our staff not only picked DA to be the starter over Leinart but that after seeing how TERRIBLE he is, we continue to rely on his arm and decision making. We need to just say, "F* it, we're running the ball 75% of the time and the rest is punts and the occasional pass to try and keep them honest).
Conrad said it perfectly. It seems that, what, 90% of us saw this coming with DA and were shaking our heads in disbelief at the decision to jettison Matt and tie our hopes to a QB that had PROVEN himself to stink so badly that he couldn't beat out Brady Quinn for the starting job in freaking CLEVELAND.
