Somers on Arizona Central website (30 seconds ago): Spencer fired. Entire D coaching staff released. Only Kitchens and Lott retained.

No surprise on Lott, but I am surprised on Spencer.

Like I said when asked on another thread - I'm pissed.

The flip side of "accountability" is rewarding people when they do good. The entire defensive staff did better than good and got fired.

The Cardinals under Wiz got dragged down by an inept offense. So OK, replace the offense. Instead, Michael B thru Coach Arians decided (at least from a coaching standpoint - so far) to blow up the entire football team.

Makes no sense. Sets us back a year; maybe longer.

As a fan, I feel like I'm being taken back to an era where all we could hope and pray for was that we'd somehow pull off a miracle that would turn an "L" into a "W."

I hope and pray that Coach Arians can pull off a miracle, but I really hate to be in a position where we have to hope instead of "know."

Not only were they fired..... They were fired after many of the openings around the league had been filled.

Yea I thought Kevin Spencer might have been the best coach we had these last few years- I would like to see him at HC - With Condi Rice as team president. I am too mucked up as a Cards fan- but I think both would have done great.

Keim is moving and shaking we'll see how well these emotional GM and HC respond. could be colorful- RED

That is not true and now you are complaining just to complain. There are several teams that just named their DC and just started to fill those spots. Jacksonville and Chicago are both prime examples. Philly has not names a DC yet, so they could still fire their staff. There are a log of coaches that will still move around and those spots will open up.

From what I read, CLEVELAND just named their DC as well and he may want most of them and even if they are not filled, they are all under contract for one year and will get paid. HOW DARE US!!!!

Thats bunk. If they are great coaches they will be employed. And How would you know every assistant's job through the entire NFL and all 8 teams that replaced staff is completely full. Im doubting you follow that closely.

The one solace is that if any of the assistant coaches don't get hired by another staff---they get paid for this year, as they had one year left on their contracts.

This for the most part is what it is. They were kept around for a while because Horton from every indication had a shot at being the head coach, and if not the front office wanted to do something which really is not acceptable when you cut ties with a former staff, and that is force the remaining DC and his staff on a new coach. It just does not happen that way. Truthfully, a head coach when they take a job is responsible in the end for the loss and wins and they want to be surrounded by their guys. The DC is an extension of the head coach. The championship game is still to be played and people are suggesting that this front office has behaved without class is beyond me. That is just my view because Mitch you probably have forgotten more football than I will ever know. I do not see others outside of this fan base really believing the front office has been unfair to Horton and his staff.

I'm not disagreeing that "it isn't what it is", but the business of football still sucks and the impact of all of this (no matter how well-intentioned) may not turn out to be what's best for the football tam in terms of future W's and L's.

That said - to quote from Satchel Paige: "Don't look back..."

Well - I don't forsee any HC canidates on our staff- don't know if it is good or bad- just know it is. I don't really care at this point- I just want to see us reset the football fundementals - and execute "normal" NFL football - and develop from there.

I think some players will revolt like fans are- We will see how all handles that- That is where coaches experience capital is needed- Like DD blowing up- Beanie and Skelton not wanting to play for the old staff- fitz is the only Cardinal Player besides maybe AW, PP or CC? that holds national clout against a weak coaching staff... that is sad to say but true- we only have one player that really matters.

Hope we have a few more next year!

FWIW, when my wife and I went to the Bengals game Christmas 2011, Spencer spent the whole game with his hands in his hoody, back to the field, checking out the women in the stands. Kid you not.

So, they should have released them all right away, before a head coach was named, so they could look for another job? As long as Horton was in the mix, it made sense to keep everyone around. Once a new head coach was named, it made sense to purge per the new HC's wishes. Sucks yes, but I don't see it as malice or bumbling...

Some will find there way to Cleveland.

Team had no option but to hold on to them while Horton was in the HC mix and the possibility that he'd remain as DC. (IMO)

What would have been classy but gutsy would have neen for Michael B from the gitgo to Tell Ray: "Here's the deal. We love you, but we have other priorities that could trump your being named HC. There are 3 other candidates - all with offensive background - that we might pick. But if we're not really wowed by any of them, you'll be our guy. We'll just have to see how it all unfolds. I wish I could give you better news, but that's the way it is for now. Your staff is under contract so we'll keep all of you for now, but that could all change if the new HC (if it isn't you) wants to go in a different direction.."

You call it classy. I would describe that conversation as dismissive.

(Wouldn't be surprised that it was something in this vein, broached by Keim, which led to the reported "blow up".)
