He's probably right. We played like crap. As far as wins go, I can't think of one that was more unimpressive than this one.

He's not knocking the Cards, he's just telling the truth.

Yeah, that Chargers win over KC was awe inspiring. Or the Vikings' 3 turnover and GB return for TD win. Or the Dolphins squeaking out a win vs. Seattle.

The Cardinals may not have blown out SF but they played turnover free football on offense and cause 3 turnovers at critical times on defense. It's hardly as bad as many are making it out to be.

The Giants barely beat Cincinnati and lost to Cleveland. Close games happen, often against teams that should be blowouts.

Here's how I see it: if we weren't getting credit for close loses in the past, shouldn't the flip side of that be actually GETTING credit for close wins?

But, ultimately, I don't really care what the talking/writing heads think. I understand that the Cards will have to win something of import (ie a playoff game or two) in order to earn people's respect. I'm cool with that.

It was a pretty unimpressive win. I'll take it, but it was not impressive.

Cowherd is so fickle about giving his support you can't take what he say's seriously. He's always declaring a team the greatest to ever step on the field until they lose a game and then he calls them overrated. Right now he calls the Giants the best in the NFL even though they played a cream puff schedule for the most part and lost to the Browns. Now that they are facing good teams the rest of the way watch how quickly he jumps ship if they lose a couple of games, especially to the Cardinals.

Look---we all know this game exposed the Cardinals for what they really are at this point: a high powered passing offense with a dubious running game...along side an at-times aggressive defense that is prone to giving up big plays...and a team that has a history of meltdowns on MNF and in clutch situations.

No one in the media is giving SF nearly enough credit...they just look at the record and scoff. Well, with two weeks to prepare under a new fiery coach...and...bolstered in confidence by returning the opening kickoff 104 yards for a TD...they played this game like it was their Super Bowl...which, for all intents and purposes, it was.

The pundits expected the Cardinals to roll at home...instead they saw another near meltdown...what do we expect the media to say?

The next three weeks will tell us what kind of team the Cardinals are...they won't be favored in any of these games.

Probably had something to do with betting. I think he had the Cards and gave the points. And I don't mean that he bet, but gave it out to his listeners

Cowherd's job is to make inflammatory statements to get people to talk about Colin Cowherd.

Guess what we're doing?

Cowherd is a USC homer. If the Cardinals were winning unimpressively with Leinart at the helm, he would be less critical. The Cardinals were no doubt very fortunate to come away with a W, but they did just the same. If we didn't have 2 pick 6's taken off the board, we would have won without the dramatics. How about the BS penalty on Boldin that snuffed out a definite scoring drive? I give the Niners a ton of credit. Singletary had them prepared to go to war. No team in the NFL would have blown them out on Monday night. I'll be curious to see how they play the rest of the year. When they blow out the Rams & then give teams fits down the stretch, maybe we will look back on this game as a quality W.

bingo

9 weeks in I am not sure things are really going to change that much over the rest of the season

had the Cardinals gotten that last first down and run out the clock -- there would have been a completely different vibe on the win. It would have been about not playing well, but making the plays down the stretch with the game on the line and winning.

You give any 2-7 (or worse) team playing in your house two plays from the 2 yard line to win the game, you are losing 75% of those games.

I hate saying the Cards got lucky -- because they did stop them afterall -- but they certainly beat the odds.

the media is going to hate it when the cards' continue to win because they are basically going to have to force themselves to actually know a thing or two about this team besides warner boldin and fitzy

Agree 100%.

I heard this live and turned it off.

Actually Cowherd is A Cardinal fan so I am okay with him calling a spade a spade. He understands the team on a periphery level so I am okay with it.

We will get love if we beat the Giants. I really don't understand why when the a 0 win Bengals almost beat the at home Giants there was a unified "Oh what a tough Giants team" and when we do a similar play aginst the 9ers we are garbage.

I guess a Super Bowl win allows you a certain amount of cache but geez.

Whatever.

Yeah, that Chargers win over KC was awe inspiring. Or the Vikings' 3 turnover and GB return for TD win. Or the Dolphins squeaking out a win vs. Seattle.

and everyone continues to talk about how disappointing the Chargers are, not to mention that they're 4-5. And the Vikings are pretty challenged at QB, everyone comments on it, but they still beat a team that was 4-4. And the Dolphins were a .500 team that everyone expected to be terrible.

The Cardinals may not have blown out SF but they played turnover free football on offense and cause 3 turnovers at critical times on defense. It's hardly as bad as many are making it out to be.

and yet they were still just one yard away from losing at home to a 2-6 team that had lost 5 games in a row.

The Giants barely beat Cincinnati

and they were roundly criticized for it and even at that point, being the Super Bowl champions, people STILL weren't giving them respect as if they were the favorite or even amongst the top two contenders to win it all this season.

and lost to Cleveland.

which was on the road and, again, the Giants got criticized for it as everyone talked about "the old Eli resurrfacing".

Close games happen, often against teams that should be blowouts.

this is true and what always follows, even with teams that ARE on a pedestal is that they are ripped apart following that loss. what happens to the Cardinals doesn't happen in a vaccuum folks. If the ANY up and coming team got the first big shot to show the nation who they were and played the Niners the way we did, on national TV, all you'd hear for a couple days are "Maybe that team isn't as good... question marks... yada... yada... yada"

I listened to Cowherds show that day and I had zero problems with what he said.

Cowherd watched the game and gave his opinion.

At least, he watched the game.

Too many so-called experts feel that they can give an opinion (good or bad) about the Cardinals, yet have barely seen them play more than they see on ESPN highlights.

The Cards were unimpressive. I imagine that he wanted to be impressed, but simply wasn't.

Who can argue with that?

I see no problem with being critical of a win where the team really should have won by two touchdowns --- ( and isnt that a sign of progress, huh?)

the thing with the NFL that I have really come to beleive is this:

"last week doesnt always equal this week"

In some odd sort of way, I beleive that the sloppy effort last week almost makes more likely an efficient effort out of the Cards in Seattle

I would agree. There is nothing wrong with higher expectations. They provide both a sign of progress and another goal to achieve. I, for one, am happy to see the Cardinals begin to reach a level where the quality of wins is discussed.

This is my thought also. I think that a game like the last one will be a great motivator to a team that might have been a little too caught up in reading its own press clippings.
