Batter up: Yanks, Sox want Army-Navy game
Both the Red Sox and Yankees are vying to host future contests between Army and Navy.
Fitting story as spring training gets underway. The Sox and Yanks have both submitted bids to host the longstanding rivalry (which dates back to 1890) in 2018. The Baltimore Sun additionally passes along that the Patriots, Redskins, Ravens and Giants are also in consideration for future hosting duties. To date, Philadelphia has hosted 88 of 118 meetings between the two teams. They will make it 89 of 119 this coming season. Army had been on a 14-game losing streak in the series until they finally snapped that dud streak this past December.
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline writes that "the overwhelming belief" is that Florida State DE DeMarcus Walker "will leave [the NFL Scouting Combine in] Indianapolis with depressed draft stock."
Pauline doesn't disagree with this "overwhelming belief," either, noting that "t’s a combination of a lack of size, poor speed and a question as to where he’ll line up on Sundays." The 6-foot-3, 281-pounder is coming off his best statistical season with the Seminoles, having registered 67 tackles (19.5 for loss), 16 sacks and a trio of forced fumbles over the course of 13 games played. Pauline does not see Walker being drafted until the fifth round or thereabouts this spring.
http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/cfb/64965/NFL-coach-says-weight-will-be-Garcia's-issueOne NFL offensive line coach suggested weight will be a major question for Troy T Antonio Garcia in the NFL.
"He's a thin-waist guy and he doesn't look like he can hold weight," the position coach said. "It's pretty hard to be 295 to 305 (pounds) and make it anymore in the league as a starter." Garcia weighed 293 pounds at the Senior Bowl, so it will be interesting to see where he weighs in at Indianapolis. Just speaking on offensive line coaches. They are the epitome of old school footballers. So even if this position coach loves Garcia's punch, footwork and even strength, weight will be a question for their traditional minds.
"Arizona State redshirt junior QB Manny Wilkins says he doesn't mind having to compete with Alabama transfer Blake Barnett for the starting quarterback job.
"It's all part of the game," Wilkins said. "College football is a business. I'm not scared. I'm not flustered. That's not who I am. It really doesn't matter to me. I'm very hungry." The competition is expected to exclusively be between Wilkins and Barnett because backups Brady White and Bryce Perkins are injured and the coaching staff wants to redshirt sophomore Dillon Sterling-Cole and incoming freshman Ryan Kelley. Barnett was ranked by ESPN as the nation's No. 1 pocket passer coming out of high school. New ASU OC Billy Napier was most recently Alabama's WR coach, giving him a good deal of familiarity with Barnett. "We're going to create competition," Napier said. "We're going to evaluate them as if we don't know anything about them.
http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/cfb/65045/NFL-Exec--RB-Foreman-is-awful-in-pass-proOne NFC Scouting Director told NFL.com's Lance Zierlein that Texas RB D'Onta Foreman's pass protection skills are "awful."
"Our coaches won't put him out there if they think he'll get the quarterback killed," the NFL personnel man said. There will be some disagreement with this statement, as Pro Football Focus charted Foreman with zero sacks in pass protection at some point this season. The truth is somewhere in the middle, and Texas' offensive style plays a big part. Many pass were off play action and were quick throws, either outside breaking routes versus off coverage or downfield shots. Foreman's pass pro reps do not tranlsate easily to many NFL offensee.
