Alabama hired former Rams QB coach Chris Weinke as an offensive analyst.

The former Florida State Heisman winner spent the past two seasons as the QB coach of the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, moonlighting on "Hard Knocks" last summer as Jared Goff's mentor. Weinke, a former Carolina Panthers quarterback, got the job expected to go to Clint Trickett, who instead was hired by FAU as TE coach.

LSU power forward Brian Bridgewater will transition to football as a TE this fall.

He hasn't spoken to head coach Ed Orgeron about the move yet, but intends to. If Coach O isn't okay with it, Bridgewater may transfer elsewhere. "That’s a possibility, if things go according to how they’re supposed to," Bridgewater said of joining the Tigers football team. "Hopefully that’s an option. If not I’ll have to see what door opens for me." The 6-foot-5, 282-pounder was ranked as the No. 27 tight end in the country by 247 Sports coming out of high school. As for recent examples of a similar situation working, ex-Baylor PF Rico Gathers spent the 2016 NFL season on the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad.

Middle Tennessee redshirt junior QB Brent Stockstill will miss spring practices after undergoing surgery on his left (throwing) shoulder.

Stockstill was dogged by a right shoulder injury last season. Now, his throwing shoulder is acting up. Stockstill threw for 3,233 yards with a 31/7 TD/INT ratio across 10 games played last year. He already owns school marks with 61 touchdown passes, 14 300-yard passing games, two 400-yard passing games and 303.3 passing yards per game.

USC kicker who made game-winning Rose Bowl kick no longer on the roster
It’s not clear whether Boermeester will return to the team at any point in the future. The kicker was suspended from the team early last month for an unspecified “code of conduct” issue.
