Yeah, they need to not freak out with big changes after 1 year. But if the bye continues to be a disadvantage after 3 or 4 years there will be huge pressure to go to 16 teams.
definitely, and the complaints this year are minor, at least from me. the main thing is that no one is getting screwed out of a title shot like what almost always happened in the past and also happened to FSU last year even with the 4 team playoff.

I like Penn St, the team... but am not a fan of the coach!
I can't stand either - Franklin is a good coach, but definitely picked up that PSU trait of protecting the program over people

I've spent way too much time with and around be PSU fans

Game day there is fun and it is a great environment - it was at is best when I got to see Miami give them one of their worst home losses though:D

Agreed... I have a nephew who is a senior at PSU. Love him...but he's become a bit more hard to love over these 4 years! :)
Still, of the 4 remaining teams, PSU is the team that irks me the least.

I don't really care. Definitely not Ohio St or Pedo St. Screw them. Texas - oh hell no. By default Notre Dame is my preference. I guess a national title by them is good for the sport overall.

all four of the teams left are a bucket list for me to attend a game. I finally went to Austin this year and that was incredible. I went to Texas/Ohio State in Glendale for the fiesta bowl, but that wasn't as fun as it would be going to Columbus or Austin. I lived in Ohio after I moved away from Arizona and I must say it is like a monopoly there for Ohio State. they have nothing in the way of in state competition or rivalry that texas does with multiple in state universities. that aside I have all the respect in the world for Ohio State. they have been the most consistent program in my lifetime of watching football.

I going to have to pull for the Domers. Mainly to stick it to both the B1G and SEC but I'd have real trouble pulling for any of the other 3. OSU and Texas have the two most obnoxious fan bases outside of the couple Texas guys here. Plus I'm still bitter over Cooper. And Pedo St is Pedo St. I don't think they have a real shot either and that they're still in only by luck of the draw. If they had drawn any other team in the semis they'd have lost.

It's kind of odd that Texas is in the SEC. after years of being Southwest Conference and Big 12 I was used to that. I want to defend the SEC then again I don't because Texas in year one is proving to be the best team in that conference, albeit losing to Georgia twice keeps them from outright saying it now. I feel like the SEC title loss was a tip the cap moment for me. Georgia won the battle but I knew they were going lose the next game because of the way they got beat up in that game. I'll also add that when A&M switched over from big 12 to SEC, they got better and had success against the big teams in that conference. After the surge in OU and Texas post 2000, A&M were rarely if ever a top big 12 team. So I agree with those who say the SEC is overrated. It's a good conference, but it's not always the best one.

As a Michigan native and fan (co-favorite along with ASU), I absolutely LOATHE Ohio Stank. Even though I don't really care for any of the other semifinalists, I'll readily take any of them over tOSU.

And beyond my own personal disdain, Ohio's "we'll pay anything to get a champion" approach is at the forefront of what is going haywire with college football. They were most likely breaking the rules before the NIL. Now they have basically given up all pretense of being an institute of higher learning and are just in the business of pro football being underwritten by state educational funding.

I cannot stand Ohio or just about anything in it or from it, so I always root against Ohio State.

I've witnessed Penn State win a national title (January 2, 1987, against Miami at the Fiesta Bowl in Tempe, a day after I saw ASU beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena), so I'd rather see someone new win it.

I grew up Catholic so I cannot root for Notre Dame. Was sick of being told by several sisters and priests that we MUST cheer for
Notre Dame. Turned me against them at a young age. Plus, I witnessed them win a national title also - the 1989 Fiesta Bowl in which they beat Major Harris and the West Virginia Mounrtaineers.

Guess that means all I have left is Texas. Have been there a lot. Have friends and family there so it is fitting.

Interesting trivia: Will Howard, Ohio State QB, has never beaten Texas - in four tries. He lost to them three times as the starting QB for Kansas State and another time was watching from the sidelines as they lost to Texas.

Here's to adding one more loss in that streak. :)

More trivia. A near miss for John Cooper (or maybe the late Darryl Rogers)? Per the Los Angeles Times of December 28, 1988:

THE MAJOR : West Virginia’s Harris Is Not Rank and File

Harris, 6-1 and 215, sat with a reporter recently in West Virginia’s 15,000-seat Coliseum, watching a couple of members of WVU’s basketball team play half-court with some non-varsity players. And he wondered what might have been.

“I can hold my own with those guys,” he said, pointing to the varsity players. “If I’d played any other football position but quarterback, I might have tried to play both sports.”

Harris grew up in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, spawning ground of some big-time basketball names: Maurice Stokes, Connie Hawkins and Maurice Lucas.

His mother was a computer operator in a Pittsburgh steel mill until she was recently laid off, his father is a television repairman. His given name is Major, named for an uncle who was a foot soldier in Vietnam.

When West Virginia’s 11-0 football team tries to win a national championship by beating Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl Monday, viewers might logically wonder: How did Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Penn State and so many other Eastern football powers miss this guy?

“A lot of schools got the word that I wanted to play quarterback,” Harris said.

“There were three who said I could play quarterback--West Virginia, Syracuse and Arizona State. At one time, I’d wanted to go to Pitt, but Pitt had a coaching change that year (Foge Fazio left and Mike Gottfried arrived), so I ruled them out. It came down to WVU and Arizona State.”
