The spring sports season in the NCAA is in full swing, as sports like baseball, softball and lacrosse have kicked off fresh campaigns in 2025. And Salisbury University has a few big teams that are worth keeping an eye on in the coming weeks and months.
Salisbury is known to be a Division III powerhouse, especially in the spring season, making it to the World Series and deep runs in the NCAA's tournaments. And they'll be looking to replicate that success in their 2025 seasons.
Here is a roundup of what's going on with SU baseball, softball and lacrosse so far this season:
Baseball
The Sea Gulls baseball team under head coach Troy Brohawn have been a regular fixture at the top of the Division III rankings, and have parlayed their regular-season success into multiple College World Series appearances and a national title in 2021. This year, SU is right back in the mix at the top of Division III.
A month into the season, the Sea Gulls are currently 18-5 and ranked No. 8 in the country. SU's signature victory so far this season was its comeback win over No. 13 Penn State Harrisburg, and an upcoming road game against rival Christopher Newport will be another test for the Sea Gulls. Some of the top hitters for SU this year include Noah Burroughs, Jackson Inman, and Danny Sheeler, while Tyler Villa and former Parkside pitcher Aidan Brinsfield have helped lead SU on the mound.
Softball
Another traditionally dominant team at SU, Salisbury's softball team is entering year five under head coach Lacey Lord. Just two years ago, the Sea Gulls were national runners-up at the College World Series, and now they are looking to make it back.
SU had to say goodbye to the program's all-time home runs leader Abby Mace at the end of last season, and they have gotten off to a 21-2 start this year. Currently ranked No. 11 in the nation, they've only suffered losses to Tufts and Swarthmore and will look to continue the momentum they've started the season off with. Ace pitcher Sydney Adolfson has pitched multiple shutouts this season, and Carrie Jacoby and Emily and Ellen Stockman have helped lead the Sea Gulls at the plate.
Men's and Women's Lacrosse
Two teams who have each won Division III National Championships in the last five years, the men's team's most recent triumph came in 2023, while the women won it all in 2021.
The men's team went undefeated for most of last season before falling in the NCAA Quarterfinals, and they are right back to their dominant ways, starting the year 11-0. Currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, star senior forward Brice Bromwell continues to rack up goals and assists for the Sea Gulls. Bromwell and teammate John DeFazio were each recently named to the Tewaarton Award Watch List, the first duo at Salisbury to hold simultaneous spots on the list since 2008.
The women's team has gotten off to a slower start to the new season, currently standing at 6-3 as they look to gain momentum. They've won all five of their home games, but have run into some bumps in the road away from home.
