No one saw Bruce Irvin as a first rounder. Anthony wouldn't shock me.

Cardinals strategy could be to trade down again in the first Rd. and target one of the ILB's and pick up another 3rd Rd. pick this yr.

Obviously a lot depends on who's sitting there @ 24. Also what happens after 3-10.

They could go:

1-ILB
2-OLB
3-OL
3-RB

Id love Anthony in the 2nd. Overdrafted? Sure, considering I had him in the 5th round in my mock a few months ago.

But still, if you like em, dont gamble, go get em. In 2 years you dont care what round guys were drafted in. Bethel is becoming one of the most decorated guy on the roster, and hes a 6th rounder.

This is how I see it. Thompson WAS a LB at UW. It's not like he's a guy who has never played LB and is moving over from safety.

What's forgotten at the combine often is that some guys might be small, or a bit slow, but have a knack for making plays. Shaq Thompson was one of the biggest playmakers in all of college football last year, whether you lined him up at LB, S, OR RB.

He's a very good football player and would be one of the Cardinals best 11 defenders immediately.

Agree. Tape trumps combine.

I agree that Thompson is a good football player, never said he wasn't. But, I don't think he's a good fit for the Cardinals. What he would be used as, the Cards already have in Bucannon. I don't think the Cards think it's ideal to have two 6 foot 230 pound guys in there trying to stop runs in the middle of the field. I think he's going to end up playing safety or OLB in a 4-3 defense.

By the time the Cardinals are on the clock I expect the top tier of 3-4 rush backers to be gone (Fowler, Ray, Gregory, Dupree and Beasley). That would leave Nate Orchard, Eli Howard, Markus Golden and Owa Odighizuwa on the board. The stop watch says Orchard and Golden are 4-3 defensive ends. At 6'3" 267 Odighizuwa is a couple Big Macs away from being a 4-3 defensive end. That leaves Eli Howard if the Cardinals go edge rusher.

Get faster on the inside is Kendricks/McKinney in the first round or Anthony in the second.

There are three nose tackles in the draft with first round grades. Shelton should be long gone. But Malcom Brown or Eddie Goldman could still be on the board.

I agree. I don't want to take the 6-7 rated pass rusher when you can get a top 2-3 at another position. Not in round 1 anyway.

Bucannon is not 230. He's much closer to 215 or 210.

I think if you go Thompson, you move Bucannon back to safety, and play Bucannon in a similar role to what the Seahawks do with Chancellor.

Thompson still has room to grow too.

Thompson's 40 time was disappointing, but if you watched him play at all this year, he obviously runs a lot faster on the football field. His instincts are also top notch as a defensive playmaker. Maybe not as a safety or linebacker, but his general awareness as a defender is top notch. IMO he's easily going to be one of the best players from this draft.

He was a top two defender in the PAC 12, and was the best player on a UW squad that featured Shelton, Kikaha, and Peters, all first day/second day guys.

Plus you can play him at RB at a fairly high level too.

The question is (and one you could probably ask your scout friend) what is the difference between Fowler and Eli Harold? Is it that great? It might be a situation where the top 7 pass rushers have very little difference between them and will come down to attitude and "want to".

grand canyon

not really, because no one in this draft has step foot in the NFL yet. We can only go off projections. However projections suggest Folwer is an animal, run away career Pro Bowler type caliber play maker.

Eli is a 2nd rounder. A 1st if someone ( us) reaches for him.

Agreed

Ive been trying to figure out who if not a pass rusher and Im thinking:

Erving, one of the DTs, a CB (hopefully Peters), Melvin Gordon, ILB...that's it. I cant think of anyone else.

Don't like Harold at 24. I'd rather go OL then. Pick up the best lineman available. Flowers, Collins, Peat or Erving. Kendricks or McKinney you could get trading down.

Peat has a Cardinals connection with his Father.

I don't think we could still get Kendricks trading down. I can see a team like GB picking him since he's the best ILB(Dawson is arguable, despise a bad combine) & they desperately need a ILB.
I'd rather go with Kendricks in the first then a pass-rusher in the 2nd.

If you want the possibility (and I stress possibility because the draft is a crap shoot) of a real pass rusher... they are usually found in the top 10 or 15, and the Cardinals are simply going to have to trade up to get one!
