Being a huge Howard fan, I'm kind of obliged to watch it. The teaser trailer didn't make me want to see it more, but it didn't make me not want to watch it. The only thing that saddens me is that it sounds like a reboot, and I would hate for that to be the case. The original rocked and doesn't need re-done, and the original was also crap compared to the stories. I hoped they would go back and run with some of the original source material, but it doesn't look like they did.

Oh well. I'll see it anyway, of course.

I am going to have to see it just to see if Jason Momoa can actually act. He didn't get to show a lot in Stargate Atlantis.

He was good as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. (Not that the role required much more than walking around being a badass...) Gives me some hope.

Like Stout, I love the source material and wish they'd tap into some of the stories just waiting to be adapted for the screen.

A little encouraged by this blurb:

This new version of the Conan story is more true to the original works of Robert E. Howard and has Jason Momoa as the Cimmerian warrior, in 3D no less.

I'm not. From all of their advertising, this blurb is a blatant lie. The premise of the story is Conan 'revenging' the death of his father. None of the original stories have anything even remotely to do with this, the stated main plot line. Ergo, they are full of it, IMO.

Agree with Stout. Will just reread the stories.

And the guy in the poster looks more like Fabio than a grizzled killing machine Cimmerian.

Yep, I absolutely loved the stories. This movie will probably just piss me off.

Well now, I'm re-reading the stories, yes, but I'll definitely check out the movie too. Ahnold's version didn't follow the stories much either, but it was a pretty good movie.

As for Momoa (sp?), I will definitely give him a shot. He was great as Khal Drogo in GoT.

That's the first clip that makes me want to see this movie. The commercials do nothing for me.

I'm guessing those were Picts?

By the stories, those would have to have been. Of course, they are doing absolutely nothing according to the stories.

Why do filmmakers feel the need to do Conan's back story? You don't have to follow a movie from when the main character is a child all the time, I hope they realize. And the whole 'revenging his father' thing? Urgh. What a waste. You have such rich, unique stories that can be exploited to nail Conan and his role perfectly, and people refuse to even reference them, except in passing. How disappointing. I mean, it looks like a good movie and I'll check it out, but it seems like another writer just doesn't get it.

Good call Stout. We really don't need the parentswerekilled storyline to get Conan. He is just Conan. His people were pretty much badasses. Enough said.

Did we need to know Hulk Hogan's backstory to know at some point in the match he would start shaking and then comeback and kick butt? No, we just went with it.
