I am very happy for Martin. It has been long overdue but you finally got an Oscar.

I'm very happy for Marty.
I would have liked to have seen Peter O'Toole win just because he will probably never have another chance.

I agree, it would be nice to see Peter O'Toole win finally, but I can't honestly support him winning mainly because of his body of work--that's what the lifetime achievement awards are for. You'd hate for someone who did as amazing a job as Forrest Whitaker get passed over simply because the Academy has felt guilty for 40 years.

Because the Academy has never awarded Oscars based on guilt right?

I was sort of disappointed that the Departed won for best movie. It was a good movie, rewatchable on so many different levels, and the performances were great, but it wasn't the best of this year.

Letters from Iwo Jima, Pan's Labyrinth, Little Miss Sunshine, Children of Men, and The Queen were all IMO better movies. But then again there is a reason why my critiques mean squat.

Hmm, I never said they didn't award based on guilt. But thanks for putting words into my mouth anyway. I still think Forrest Whitaker deserved the award over all the other nominees--Peter O'Toole included. Sorry you don't feel that way.

LOL.

Only bringing up the fact that the Academy has awarded Oscars in that regards. Not putting words into your post merely stating that the Academy has awarded people based on guilt and previous works being worthy and not awarding then.

It's funny you take offense to that and in the very same internet breath put words into my internet mouth about Whitaker/O'Toole.

Funny considering neither of their names were in my post.

But to clear the air in that matter, if it were up to me I would have awarded Whitaker as well.

I am too lazy to look it up, but I wonder who won instead of O'Toole the year he did Lawrence of Arabia.

You could make a good case for all those nominees. I still think O'Toole should have won though.

That's unusual. It was also Peter O'Toole's first starring role, so I suppose you can also reason that he didn't win because of that. Then again, I think that Atticus Finch was probably one of the best if not THE best performance by an actor I've ever seen.
