I agree that we need relievers. He has brought in a few in the last month and most are worthless. I question the move because it does not seem like enough value for Jackson. Byrnes and his staff have not proven to be good evaluators of talent. Also, we could use a left handed reliever.

I do believe that is a foreign concept to Byrnes and Co.

Tough to see Conner Jackson go, but something had to be done. Do we have a closer or what with Demel?

Scout.com ranks him as the A's 10th best pitching prospect and 24th overall. Connor for a 24 year old reliever that is only the 10th best pitching prospect in the organization doesn't seem like enough. Only time will tell.

This is probably just the beginning of several undervalued trades for this club...

I appreciate how Conor has tried to help this team, but . . . a fresh start for him will be good for all parties concerned.

He was the biggest, bulkiest outfielder we had . . . but devoid of power at a corner position. A tweener. Uncomfortable at 1B and trying his best in LF.

Let's see if a new reliever will carry his weight.

I hope that Rusty Ryal is given a chance in LF. Even though his is an infielder, he should be able to make the adjustment.

A right handed batter, as was CoJacK, but with power, and potentially a .300 hitter.

Hinch said he would give Ryal a chance in LF when Jackson was injured, but didn't. Or rather, Josh Byrnes, who sets the lineup, didn't. Perhaps he'll see the light.

Right now we have three outfielders on our roster.

Conor is just about ready to be over his injuries and is getting his groove back from the valley fever incident. His value is either never lower.. or he's about to wash out. I'd bet we just sold low.

Do you like our current bullpen situation? Or, do you agree that we simply had to make a move?

If you believe we had to make a move (which is of course what most people believe), what - Realistically - could the D-Backs have done? Other than Jackson, who else would you have preferred to have shipped off? Of course, we have no idea if in fact they made any other efforts to trade someone other than Jackson... for me, I would have liked to have seen what CY would have brought in a trade. But who knows, maybe they tested that strategy and were only offered Demel type quality...

Really... in the end, what else could they have done given that they HAD to make a move??

I don't like this trade at all...I think it'll really come back to get us as Jackson goes through his career. I wouldn't have minded a trade of Stephen Drew, but I guess with how the season has went we will be losing more players. Demel looks good so we'll see how this goes. Hopefully he can be a good, long-term option for the bullpen.

Why? For their impending WS push? I'm not really upset that Jackson was traded but I do agree this is a classic case of selling low.

Let me guess, you would've been ok with the D-Backs mailing it in and not making an effort to improve the pen... right?

Where did I say that? Let me ask you how much CY could have gotten in return had he been traded last year? Then compare that to his value this year. When you trade a player that's playing the worst they have ever played it is selling low.

I assumed the bold comment above meant that you were not of the opinion that they "HAD" to make a move...

That's not an appropriate analogy to make... last year, our pen was not in full-scale collapse. So this year, this issue boils down to whether or not you believe the team HAD to make a move. If you feel they did, than what, other than Jackson, should they have done. If you feel they didn't - cool...

I'm of the opinion they didn't HAVE to make this trade. Trading someone who's value is at an all time low is not smart.

The only point I was trying to make is how trading someone when they are at their worst is just a poor strategy. I think we can call agree CY has much more value this season than he did last.

I honestly don't see how acquiring a mediocre pitching prospect is going to save the season and I don't support the idea you have to make a move just for the sake of making a move.

I don't know how I feel about the idea of "making a move for the sake of making a move"

However, I am actually happy to see them do something other than trot out the same reliever every game. It at least shows that the front office is willing to make a move and show the team and their fan base that they won't sit by and let the same guys blow every close game we have.

And I am wondering what exactly is fair market value for Connor Jackson. At his best, who does he compare to as a player?

I realize that he is coming off of the injury and has been sick but really, what was/is his upside and what really would be a fair trade for him?

Connor sucks. Glad he's gone.

Keep in mind the A's have good organizational development/scouting for pitching. I understand he's not a front line starter, but Demel grades out pretty well as a reliever with a good fastball and slider.

Not to mention this is a cost cutting move, so it's tough to get back what people perceive as equal talent when the other team is taking on more salary.

I hate our bullpen situation. I agree we could afford to move Connor. From appearances, we just got a triple A player who looks ready to step up and fill in a non-closer/set-up role.

Its not like we just gave away the team, but I think we got the worst of the deal because we are negotiating from such weakness as our bullpen is that bad.

I don't like the trade, I do think we needed to make a move, but probably not this move. If we lose 10 more games in the next 20 days because of our bullpen what is the end result? We move into laster place?

Any trades we make right now need to look to the future, did this one?

So the A's have good organizational development/scouting for pitching, but their organizational development/scouting for hitting sucks because Connor* sucks?

*Why do people constantly spell his name incorrectly? Is it that difficult or are they just that lazy?
