Corey Chavous: What's up everyone.. I appreciate the interest and look forward to the questions...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Todd (Tallahicky): Being a DB, what's your impression of Keiwan Ratliff? He had a lot of ints this year but is a little undersized.

Corey Chavous: When you look at games against ARK he was very aggressive .. he definitly has the ability in zone coverage and plays cover 2 about as quick as any DB I have seen .. he also has great athleticism .. I think more than anything he will have to get a little stonger.. the height isn't as big an issue as the weight..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Michael (Toronto): Good afternoon Cory. I am impressed with all the college tape you watch. Outside of Kevin Jones & Stephen Jackson, which RB has the most upside?

Corey Chavous: Quincy Wilson from West Virginia. The more tape I watch the better feel I get for his strength and balance.. he plays fast, not a burner in the 40, but he has enough wiggle to get the extra yards. Mewelde Moore from Tulane I like as well. Lots of different types of backs out there right now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JB (Houston): What about Keary Colbert? I can see him being a Rod Smith-type of guy. Do you agree?

Corey Chavous: Outstanding comparison JB .. they both play very competitively in the NFL .. the only difference would be Smith is a little better after the catch but Colbert is good at that as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Andrew, NC: Phillip Rivers may be the most underated passer of all time, he lead the nation in completion %, and is second all time in yards in the NCAA, first everywhere in the ACC. So where does this put RIvers in the NFL Draft

Corey Chavous: I just got through watching him on tape .. he is a top 4 QB in the draft. There are other guys to look at like Losman and guys who could move up, but Rivers has a chance to be a late first round or early second round guy .. I agree he is very underrated..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Erik (Phx): Who is your biggest sleeper of the draft?

Corey Chavous: To me, Shawntae Spencer, the CB from Pittsburgh is a sleeper ... all you hear about is Gamble. He is definitely my No. 1 sleeper. I like his size and the fact that he gets in and out of breaks really quick. He is very efficient with his footwork and is very tough.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keith Winchester VA: What do you think of Darnell Dockett? I think he is alot like Cory Simon, maybe a bit better at getting up field.

Corey Chavous: Interesting.. good comparison. Last year he didn't really live up to expectations compared to what he did in 2001 (set the FSU record for tackles for loss with 24). But he has the size to be a first rounder and plays with great leverage. I like him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
jason(independence,ia): do u think larry fitz is the best pure wideout or someone else like maybe williams or clayton from ou or woods from osu

Corey Chavous: I think Fitzgerland is an outstanding wideout with great body control. He can play and change speeds effortlessly which enhances his route runners. Roy Williams might be the best athlete.

Corey Chavous: Another guy, Michael Jenkins is an impact player so far at the Senior Bowl so he should move himself up the charts a little bit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mike, Seattle, WA: Mr. Chavous, where do you project WR Reggie Williams going in the draft? Where do you rank him amongst Fitzgerald, Roy Williams, etc.?

Corey Chavous: I think he stacks up very well .. he has great ability to run after the catch. He can go up and attack the ball in the air and has really strong hands. Every since that first game of his career against Michigan he has been getting it done.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Robertus(CR, Iowa): Where do you see a safety like Bob Sanders(Iowa) ending up?

Corey Chavous: He is an oustanding safety. I like his transition and he can stop and start as good as anyone. He has great speed and extreme explosivness in his hips. He is one of the best tacklers in the country.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rog (VA): Will the Skins take Winslow at number 5? I'd prefer they get a young RB like Kevin Jones or Stephen Jackson. Who do you think they should draft?

Corey Chavous: I think at No. 5, with Joe Gibbs as your coach, probably they will go with a bigger back of the John Riggins type. He has always had those kinds of guys. But he also had Earnest Byner. Steven Jackson would fit into the first mode very well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dario, CA: Do the Vikes ever ask for your opinion on who to draft?

Corey Chavous: Never, but that's just a good thing. This is a hobby for me, something I do for fun.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eric (Greenville, NC): Who would be your first pick and why?

Corey Chavous: You always start with a QB .. I'd go with Ben Roethlisberger, from what I have seen. Both Roethlisberger and Manning are great QBs. Ben has great athleticism (played point guard in basketball and shortstop in baseball in high school and WR until his senior year) and the ability to keep his poise and make plays outside the pocket. He can throw on the run very well. He is an oustanding prospect.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lance (New Orleans LA): Corey. Who do you think are the top 3 CB's in this years draft?

Corey Chavous: Shawntae Spencer I mentioned earlier .. I really like Dante Robinson from South Carolina .. Will Poole from USC .. after that, there are guys like Strait, DeAngelo Hall, Chris Gamble .. the best isn't a corner, it's safety Sean Taylor. I also like Colclough from Tusculum.

Another guy to look at as a sleeper is Ahmad Batman Carrol. He declared early and could be one of the top guys taken when they really start breaking down film. Nathan Vasher isn't a bad prospect. Joey Thomas from Montana State, I need to watch a little more tape on him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
blake (little rock): does cedric cobbs have the potential to be a starter in the nfl?

Corey Chavous: No question.. he might end up being a late bloomer.. he has great determination running between the tackles and that is very important. He might work out better than any RB in the draft, he is known as a workout warrior.. with his speed you have to be intrigued ..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jared (New Orleans LA): Corey, what is your opinion of Chad Lavalais, and where do you think he will go in the draft?

Corey Chavous: He really took it to another level this year leading the team in tackles for loss and sacks.. he had 21 hurries in 2002 .. he has been consistent.. he probably had a better 2001 than 2002 so he has kind of improved every year which is what you want to see .. I think he's probably a third round guy .. but could go higher.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
matt, gainesville: How do you think Ben Troupe's lack of experience and need for work on his run blocking affect his draft status?

Corey Chavous: It will affect it a little bit .. he is so big and athletic.. he improved the second half of the season and because he was used to much in the pass game, it hurt his blocking skills but he will be a major league coup for any team ..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mike(Wausau Wi): I'd like to know where Corey was on the last play against Arizona, and how he felt when Poole caught the ball.

Corey Chavous: To put it mildly, it was the most disappointed I have ever been in my life. Losing the way we did in my old stadium with everyone on the line, considering all we did .. I was left with one of the emptiest feelings you can ever imagine.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G. C. ( Dallas, Tx.): What's your opinion on Michael Boulware and Teddy Lehman. You think they're first rounders?

Corey Chavous: I think if they have impressive workouts they could be first round guys. They both have mobility and flexibility and play well in space. Boulware has great speed. Both guys with the way the NFL has changed, their speed will translate well to the next level.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
nick, minneapolis, mn: p.s. congrats on making your first Pro Bowl and having an excellent year.

Corey Chavous: Thanks Nick. It means a lot to me to be in the Pro Bowl.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adam (Phoenix): Corey, considering the trade down last year and losing out on Terrell Suggs, is it even worth the Cardinals to use the 3rd pick this year and then just lose that guy in a few years due to poor ownership? Thanks!

Corey Chavous: I think it comes down to how much the have in their account. At No. 3 you have options as to getting an impact player. This draft is deep so they need to stay where they are. Not doing it last year may have been a big mistake. Imagine Roy Williams and Larry Fitzgerald alongside Bouldin .. who would quarterback the team?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Colin, Baltimore: Hey Corey! Awesome year... Who is your favorite player to watch in the NFL?

Corey Chavous: My favorite would have to be Chris McAllister, the CB for the Ravens. I just like his size, speed and his athleticism. Also, Jamie Duncan of the Rams .. 22 special teams tackles and an INT a sack and several tackles. I like players who can be a great special teams player and also play LB. He has great versatility.

Thanks for all the questions .. bring some more and we'll do it again before the Draft!

I'll be back next week to talk Super Bowl from Houston! Join me then!

I thought is was interesting that he considered Ben R. the better quarterback, which I personally agree with, but I have allways liked Corey's draft analysis...

I don't know anything about this guy, but Corey sure does talk him up. I'll have to keep my eyes open for him...

Do you think that Corey would have looked better than say...Dexter Jackson at saftey? I only say this because Corey was never a corner. At Vandy he was smart and talented but never a steller shutdown corner. He is in his element at saftey with the Vikings....so I think your statement of Starks for Chavous is way off. Chavous would not have been a corner and I think Jackson is better on the field at saftey. I like some of his takes on the draft...or at least when Simieon and he arn't together running down the Cardinals.

NFL draft countdown says Spencer is a middle round pick, Corey seems to love him. He's 6'2", don't know a thing about him when I watched Pitt this year I was watching Fitzgerald not their DB's.

Corey's a good guy, the problem is he didn't want to play Safety here, now he's a pro bowl safety, it's hard for me to not hold that against him.

Chavous was a corner for us, and wasn't that bad. He wouldn't have been a Probowler at CB, but at least better than Barrett. Also, Wilson hasn't amounted to crap, so we could have put him their if need be.

I hear your arguement, Rats, but if Starks never returns to his Ravens form, I wish we would have passed on Starks and kept Chavous.

I still hope Starks pans out.

I agree. Starks has to pan out for us. And Chavous was that bad at cb for us. Barrett drew much tougher assignments then Chavous. He is a nickel at best at cb IMO.

Quincy Wilson
War Room analysis
Strengths: Shows good instincts. Shows more quickness than pure speed. Runs with good balance. Runs hard, and breaks a lot of tackles for a short guy. Is shifty, powerful and tough to tackle. Is built well, and runs with good leverage. Shows good quickness and change-of-direction skills. Finds cutback lanes, and shifts weight well in traffic. Catches passes thrown at him. Is sound as a pass blocker. Has good strength at the point of attack, and uses good leverage to uproot the blitzing linebackers.

Weaknesses: Is undersized, and lacks NFL speed. Does not show a second gear in the open field. Is not a threat as a receiver. Is a decent route-runner, but lacks experience catching the ball in game situations.

Bottom line: Wilson, whose father Otis played linebacker for the Bears, didn't start until his senior season but split carries in '02 with the Lions' Avon Cobourne. Wilson shows more quickness than pure speed and shows good vision, instincts and toughness. His lacks of height and straight-line speed limit his NFL potential. He must improve as a blocker and a receiver to increase his value as an NFL backup. Wilson is a late-round prospect.

Is there a player in the draft the Chavous doesn't like? He raved about everyone he was asked about.

en fuego,

Hey, you beat me to that. I remember Corey was very high on Stone. Maybe Mr. Green can the problem and prove Corey right!

If Corey is so smart why didn't Corey want to play Safety. He refused in Minnesota and was forced to do so finally. Looks like Corey doesn't know everything.

I was sorry to see Chavos go, and even sorrier that the coaching staff couldn't reach him to play the safety position.

But saying that, I'm really disappointed that we paid all that money for Starks and there is no way he can stand up to the rigors of the game.

IMO, he's just too short and light to be a shut down corner or a corner who can play every game for that matter.

What are you talking about? He was able to do it for four years in Baltimore! It's not like he's never been able to do it before (*cough* Marcel Shipp *cough*).

How did he manage to start for four full seasons in Baltimore and not miss any games?

He played in every game his first two seasons as a Raven, and started 15 per season his last two.

Sounds about right exept it didint mention he had a fumbling problem this year.

He has actually risen on lots of peoples board over the last few months. The bit about not being a receiver is true b/c they didint use him that way. He can catch the ball and runs nice routes. They say late round prospect? I think that must have been written a while back as I have seen him move up as high as late first day. we will see

I don't care what he did in Baltimore, it's what has he done since he landed here that counts.

You said that he doesn't have the physicality to play corner in the NFL. I told you that he did it four years in B-more. That's why you should care. It's not like he can't do it; he's shown that he can. It's that he hasn't done it here yet. I never want to hear you defending KVB, who's only shown that he can't handle the rigors of the NFL physically.

There isnt really any questioning if Starks can cover. He is a solid cover guy with great insticts. His injury problems are a big concern.

Something else I noticed as well. He is an awful tackler. The first few games last year he missed tackle after tackle and couldnt seem to stop anyone.

At this point it would be very hard to bank on Starks as a starting CB for this team due to his injuries
