He played 5 games against Big 10 teams and did fine.
Yep

IMO too many peeps (especially fans) get too caught up in what conference you played in! A boat load of talent comes from smaller schools & have great NFL & HOF careers. Kurt, Aeneas, Jetstream, Larry Wilson & Jump cut Johnson cough cough & that's just a few of the Redbirds.

With that said I'd still seriously consider him.

Love the player...but not as a top ten pick.
The problem with that is every year you see writers talk about if we could redo X-draft over again team X would draft this guy. It's not an exact science no doubt, but many times not listening to the "so called draft experts" is the way to go. Jerry Rice cough cough:mrgreen:.

Hey that Fitz guy worked out pretty well. I still say "fit, production & talent" is the way to go, in that order!!! Need IMO should be at the bottom of the list.

Like I thought, scout said his speed at the combine will be very important. Said he's a nice player but needs to run fast.

Agree, especially since we have bigger needs at OL, CB and ILBer.

This and I'll add that the Cards have a knack of getting quality WR's in the draft and don't need to use a 1st rd pick.
Totally agree. I would prefer we take top CB that is available when we pick.

I have tempered expectations. He does look good, I wouldnt say elite.

He reminds me of a faster Jaron Brown, which is certainly high praise, but still has some questions.

The 40 at the combine is overrated.

Anquan ran a 4.77 and heyward-bey ran a 4.3.

Heiward bey is just fast
Questioning the 40yard dash is legit
This guy on the field looks explosive
Being fast.on the field is different
a lot of factor can influence a 40yard dash, time of reaction, position before the start, technique, not pad...

I'd guess he runs 4.5 at the combine. He's not a burner but has great ball skills and awareness. Both Davis & Williams are more like Fitz than Green. They both should go round 1, with Williams going the earliest.

I guess that is why so many teams make bad picks. It's about game speed and game tape...the measurables at the combine should mostly be about confirmation. Mike Mamula anyone? :)

Seriously...how do NFL teams miss on so many players each year? Your investing millions of dollars on players and you still draft the Ryan Leafs, Matt Leinarts, Joey Harringtons, Trent Richardsons, etc, etc, etc very high.

Because what it takes to be successful in college is so much different than what it takes to be successful in the NFL. The game, the schemes, and the level of competition is just too different to make drafting anything more than an educated guess. More to that, organizational turnover and or dysfunction has as much to do with players failing as the player themselves.

No it's not.

There are exceptions but speed is paramount. Look at Chris Johnson, JJ Nelson, Tyreek Hill, John Brown, etc. All those guys showed long speed and have been successful. Speed isn't the only thing but a guy like Davis, playing lesser competition, it is a bigger factor. If he runs a 4.4- 4.5 he'll lock himself into a top 20 pick. A 4.65, or so, brings in questions about facing NFL caliber DB's. Him being a bigger guy will help offset his 40 a bit.

If they take a WR at #13, they better get it right this time. We need a #1 replacement for Fitz after this year. That was supposed to be the plan for Floyd. It's always one step forward and two steps back when the 1st rounder's don't pan out. If Floyd had worked out as planned, we could be drafting a different position and not be worrying about WR.

The only argument that I have is that all the players listed showed this speed on tape. What scout watched tape of these players and couldn't see their speed? So much of the 40 is determined by the start. You can knock off a tenth of a second with elite training. So now 40 looks good, but player isn't any faster.

i think speed is important. The 40 goes with that.

people forget -- early in Fitz's career there were concerns about him "not getting separation" -- his catches all seemed to be contested where his outstanding hands and jumping ability won the day

Fitz worked like a madman to perfect his craft in route running and fundamentals and the separation on routes came with that

so: if Corey Davis runs a 4.6 40 -- the draft question is "Will he dedicate himself to the craft?" in order to succeed in the NFL.

Doesnt mean 4.3 goys dont have to do that -- but it gives them a little more margin for error (all other things being equal) -- bigger cushions by DBs, etc.

That as much as anything explains why certain players excel while other wash out. Its why everyone is looking for players "who love the game"

Davis is not slow, but he's also not a burner. He's about like Fitz was when he came into the league. He's versatile enough to play outside or in the slot. Like most players coming from a second tier program he will improve with NFL coaching. His head coach PJ Fleck was a good key down receiver at NIU. So he's got some technique, but still doesn't use his body to its best advantage. He has very good hands. He runs decent routes for a college receiver. The problem is he's not a top 10 pick but he will go first round, so the Cards aren't well positioned to get him barring a trade.

???

If he's not top 10, we are in very good position to select him.

I've been touting this kid all year!!! He's a stud!!!!! I would have no problem drafting him with our #1
Corey Davis

Humble
Positive Attitude
#1 ON MY WR LIST
#1 On my 1st Round List
ALL-AMERICAN WR
He has always been competitive to win.
He needs to be a Arizona Cardinal.

My Opinion, but my opinion is like a fart in a hurricane.

It would make my day to meet him.
Its all in Gods hand.

He's very good.

But

I just hate the idea of drafting a WR that high when we have other dire needs such as QB, ILB, & CB.
Just one minute...

Arizona Drafts the top WR the biggest offensive game difference maker - 1st Round (at 13).

We have the Best Staff in the League.
KEIM, DRU GRIGSON AND CO.

They have the combine coming up, we have free agency, and what about the offensive line?

Who do you like at ILB?

Who do you like at CB?

Do you like Raekwon McMillan in the second round? Do you like Jourdan Lewis in the second round?

I like TE "Bucky" Hodges in the third, if he is already picked...how about Jordan Leggett?

Do you like Rayshawn Jenkins, Jadar Johnson, Eddie Jackson, or Javancy Jones?

Its early...

How about Taylor Moton, Jordan Morgan, Pat Elfein, Michael Dunn, Peter Bateman, or Jonathan McLaughlin?
