Could Cornerback be much higher on our list of priorities this offseason then we realized?

And yes it is a good time to talk about it after we just saw our DB's get smashed in our most recent game.

Could it be higher on the list then lets say OLB, even though both Okeafer and Berry could be gone. Think about it, they already drafted two guys they like a lot last year in Will Davis and Cody Brown to take their place. We are top 5 in the league in sacks per pass attempt. All we need is a 4th OLB.

Now move on to Cornerback. McFadden was only signed to a two year deal. Brown is most likely gone, Adams was proven that he should not be anywhere near the teams top 4 CB rotation. Brown is old, getting slower and a free agent. Toler is still as raw as day one.

So I ask are we thinking about the offseason wrong and could CB be higher on the priority list at this point in time then OLB?

We need both lbs & cbs. No doubt about it. First round pick should be best cb or lb available and most of the draft needs to concentrate on defense with the exception of adding another OT. We probably need to also think of a QB to groom especially if Warner retires.

I think Toler will become very good... he is a great athlete with lots of speed...but trade an unhappy Q to Chicago for Tillman :)

Pass Rusher is much more important.

Berry and Okeafor aren't getting any younger.

Oh and we might want to look out for a QB to replace Warner when he retires.

I think we should draft rounds 2 and 5 CB. Toler may develop more. and a DRC, DMF, Brown, Toler, Rookie, Rookie combination wouldn't be horrible.

I'd like to see: I'm assuming we trade Boldin for 2 second round picks

1st: OLB/DE
2nd:CB
2nd:LB
2nd:QB
3rd: FS
4th: OLB/DE
5th: CB

As the coaches will see it, we already drafted Berry and Okeafors replacements. I see no reason Brown and Davis cant combine for the same 11 sacks total.

Who has two seconds this year?

back on topic: I think it depends on who's there when we pick. If there's a CB that falls, great. If the best player is clearly a LB (inside OR outside), great. If it's a tackle...I dunno. I might want to reach for the next CB or LB.

I think a CB with some size is a day one priority--

either that or you look to a veteran guy like Dre Bly to come in a play nickle.

ideally -- you have a couple candidates on the 2010 roster to take McFadden's spot when he hits free agency.

I have no idea why we did not try and bring Hood back when he was released. I never thought he was terrible but then he was opposite Eric Green.

Don't the Cards need some help on the offensive line?

Why a FS? QB is only needed if Warner does retire and then it would probably be better adressed in FA or trade.

A good TE would be pretty nice to have when Boldin is traded.

Cody Brown is relatively unknown as he's been out all season. Plus, we are not going to have any depth at outside linebacker after this season. I doubt Berry and/or Okeafor will be back and either way, they are long in the tooth.

I still say if Sergio Kindle is on the board, take him. Otherwise, get a ILB.

DBs should be a second day consideration at best.

I agree with you Joe. If there's a CB that grades out higher than OLB or ILB when we pick then I think we should do it.

A great pass rush makes any CB better.

Exactly, if the secondary had been bad all year I'd be scared from yesterday but we really weren't. the problem yesterday was they would not call holding so both QB's had all day to find receivers and a guy like Rodgers who can move and those WR's, that's a recipe for disaster for a defense.

We're lucky it wasn't worse he throws the deep ball as well as anybody but he missed Jennings twice for TD's yesterday including the win the game in OT one shortly before the fumble. We were lucky on that one he had to move out of the pocket and he released it on the run just before Jennings really broke clear with his last cut. Had he been in the pocket he could have held that ball a count longer and seen where Jennings was going to be on the break.

We need lb's, we need another pass rusher, we need another CB, but BPA in first round is the way to go for me.

I'm not sure we will draft a CB high this time around.

I don't know who is becoming a FA, but I'm sure they will pick up one or two guys in free agency like McFadden last season.

I think LB and OT will be our first two picks unless we go best player available that isn't a WR or RB.

As a first hand witness yesterday. Abso-freaking-lutely. With Rolle's salary skyrocketing and Adrian's obvious flaws in coverage, I'd say we may need to draft a multi-purpose SS as well.

BUT TWO COVER CORNERS have to be a priority now> That and Offensive Line (OT) have to be the two biggest concerns that I see heading into this offseason.

BUT if there's a stud rusher still on the board???? Tough call. Look how Anthony Spencer has blossomed this season in Dal-ass! Can we afford to pass on someone like him if around. Maybe not.

I think it should definately be a D-dominated draft. I think that's what I'll expect with a good OL prospect thrown in.

Question: when do we pull the trigger on a QB this year?? Lucky Round 5 for Whiz?? Maybe we draft 2 and let them fight it out and push each other.

For me too many wide open recievers and missed open field tackles. It was like he (Rogers) was back in college toying with the secondary. Kind of like Warner too! :D

They've been somewhat shakey all season though. They were EXPOSED FOR SURE.

When you let Vince Young pass for 387 yards, 146 more yards than he did in in any other game all season, you definitely have some serious issues with your pass defense.

Note that Young had the same number of attempts against the Colts and only got 241 yards.

McFadden is just an epic fail. I dread him being counted on to stop whomever he's matched up against. It seems as om the rare occassion he makes a play, it's almost as if he did it by accident. There's gotta be a better way. That being said, Ralph Brown had a fairly decent game yesterday, all things considered.
