He is not coming back to the table. He wants to be a free agent next year and test the market. I hope I'm wrong but that seems to be his mind set.

Then he is an idiot. If he could lock down anything even close to this deal he would avoid risk of injury. I say his pride now eyes this deal.

That would be the way that he gets the most money. He signs 2 franchise tags for 17M+. If he continues having the same type of season he has for the past few years, he's going to get another 20M on the FA market.

The cards would be ill-advised to pay that much for Dansby-he's nowhere near what Harrison is as a player.

If Dansby thinks he deserves more than Bart Scott or Harrison, he is kidding himself.

Interestingly Dansby made $6.2 million dollars more than Harrison and $4.6 million more than Bart Scott in 2008.

Not that interesting. How many more million did Fitz make over Boldin for example? Had to be 10M+.

$8.5M a year for Dansby would be overpaying....let him play the season and he can test the market next year. Get A-dub locked up, he is more important to this defense anyways.

That's about what we are paying him this year and last.

When Dansby almost singlehandedly changes the momentum and outcome of a superbowl, then he can make that much.

It's not that shocking when you remember that Harrison was playing in NFL Europe as recently as 2004. He wasn't even a starter until the 2007 season (after Joey Porter was cut during the previous offseason).

Before his breakout 2007 season, Steelers fans knew him as the guy that body slammed a Browns fan running on the field on Christmas Eve in '05:

Hey, Warner did that when he threw the interception. :D

Dansby's a better player than Bart Scott and he's more important to the Cards than Scott was to Bmore. This deal definitely helps in setting parameters for a new Dansby deal. He knows what the DPOY has just signed for and he knows he's not getting that much. Also, i think people are way overreacting to his comment about upcoming free agency and the uncapped year. He's also said, many times, that he wants a long term deal in Arizona. BUt, for some reason , people only want to take the FA comment and believe that.

The comment says all there is to say. He wants to make a free agent "splash" next year. Which part of that do you not understand? Which part of firing his agent just when a deal was on verge of being struck do you not understand?

what part of Dansby saying a deal wasn't even close don't you understand? What player doesn't want to make a splash in free agency? How can you take his one comment as gospel and then disregard the many other comments about wanting to sign a long term deal in Arizona? Find me one comment where he has said he wants out of Arizona.

The timing of his firing the agent says it all...and then the next day he says he wants to make a splash in free agency in an uncapped year...you don't think the two scenarios are linked? C'mon, Cbus...you usually sift these things out more astutely.

Of course, you think far more highly of Dansby than I do. I think he is vastly over-rated. I want a tough guy at ILB...Dansby is a wuss.

azcardzfan, that's why I say with sickening urgency, let's trade him and get something for him instead of losing him for nothing after next year

I'm with you all the way on this one, lw.

Problem is...who would pay the price for him (draft picks and mega-millions in salary)?...especially when they can wait a year and get him for less.

i guess we should have just traded Fitz when he wanted more money as well. Let's say we do trade him. Who's going to step in and give even remotely the quality of play Dansby has? I think the last thing the Cards need to do is weaken the team by casting off their best defensvie player because he fired his agent. Even Graves has said he doesn't know how the new agent will affect negotiations. What if Parker comes in and reccomends Dansby taking a deal very similar to what "supposedly" was a close deal. Trading him is the last thing to do when you have Super Bowl aspirations for this upcoming year.
