Just watching this Ravens Titans game and watching how Haynesworth busted through the line with a tremendous push and sacked Wright.

This guy was picked 3 spots behind Bryant - how much of Bryant's lack of production and inability to break out is coaching, injuries, etc? I know we all sit here and bitch about how Joe Greene couldn't get any production out of this line, but how much do we really expect to get with a different coach with these same guys?

Further - what kind of a chance does KVB have coming back from another major knee injury? Does this guy even make our roster next season?

Bryant is DANGEROUSLY close to being called a bust, IMO....

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, because of coaching. If he doesn't improve next year my opinion will be set.

As for KVB - that is a good question. Personally, I don't think it looks real god for him. Especially since I have his jersey. :)

It's like a curse. If I get a player's jersey, they are doomed. I've had Thomas Jones, David Boston, and KVB.

I really want a Boldin jersey, but I don't wanna wreck a good thing we got goin' :)

Does anyone know whether we switched to the 1 gap last year.

There was talk of it during training camp/preseason, but it seemed to me we reverted back to the 2 gap.

Hopefully whoever the next def.coordinator is, they implement the 1 gap.

Playing in the 2 gap generally speaking as far as I know makes the defense read and react to 2 gaps before they either tackle the rb or make a move to get to the qb. Thus it is harder to get to the qb because it takes more time to read and react to 2 gaps, and gives the ol more time to read and react to the defense being thrown at them.

The 1 gap as far as I know makes the dl pick one gap and rush up through it to tackle the rb or sack the qb.

Bryant in the 2 gap might be a bust, bryant in the 1 gap coupled with better coaching?????
But like cardsfan473 said, he is dangerously close from being labeled a bust.

What does philly run? 2 gap or 1 gap?

Could this potentially be the reason we thought D.Walker wasn't worth a roster spot, because he had trouble picking up and producing in the 2 gap?

Either way with our dl stats the last few years, a change is needed. Hopefully the change will be to a 1 gap.

Sofar Bryant SUCKS.

He has potential, but I dont think he has the strength needed to make an impact. He looks soft, and plays that way.

The problem that Bryant has had is that he was a DT through college, then switched to DE his senior year. The Cards wanted him to play tackle the first year, and tried to cross train him at end. Since he missed his first camp, he basically learned half of two positions the first year, making him poor at both. This past season, he cross trained again, but by mid season, was taking almost all snaps at DE. They wanted him at end because of his athleticism. I would expect them to try to move him to end almost exclusively, only playing DT in nickel situations. This would mean they are likely to draft a DT to fill this void. However, this is all based on a no longer existent coaching staff.

If Mac was still the HC then KVB would have gotten another year with the team. At this point the Cards have several young players that show some promise at this position. Pace, DJ., King and possibly Bryant. As much as Wakefield gets trashed on this site he does make some plays at times. He is adequate when used properly on passing downs with stunts and twists.

I just don't see KVB making the squad this year since he can't be used at DT and we obviously need at least a pass rush specialist at this position.

I agree with Irk27 that a DT is more likely to be drafted early then a DE. Someone who can collapse the pocket.

This team needs just one player that is a force at rushing the passer for the other players to make more plays.

To throw fuel on the fire did everyone notice how the Titans ran the ball all over Suggs during the game last night.

I responded with serious doubts to another string talking about an 8-8 season. I should have added that the wild card is coaching. I thought it was bad the last several years and this change alone might produce significant results. I would be more positive, except the Cards have shown any concept in the past of how to choose a coach.
