The 2025 NFL season will mark Dak Prescott's 10th in the league, and as always, he faces heavy expectations from fans and critics. While he has led Dallas to multiple division titles and is just two years removed from a runner-up MVP finish, the former fourth-round pick's record contract and postseason struggles place enormous pressure on him to lead the team deep into the playoffs and end its three-decade Super Bowl drought. With a new head coach in place and on the opposite side of 30, patience is running low for the veteran passer.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys’ front office remains active in roster development, concentrating on building depth while filling essential positions. The team's 2025 free-agent class was recently ranked. Despite the moves that were made, adding another weapon in the passing game would be beneficial for Prescott and his go-to target, CeeDee Lamb. Furthermore, a look at mock drafts, a proposed trade, the future of Trey Lance, and a rule change that will leave Lamb and the fans disgruntled.

As the years add up, the pressure mounts for quarterback Dak Prescott, who's entering his 10th season. Prescott has achieved what most QBs would dream of: three Pro Bowl selections, an All-Pro team, four division titles, and an MVP runner-up. However, the lack of postseason success continues to be a lingering issue, with just two career playoff wins. With the largest average annual value contract in NFL history, a new head coach, and on the other side of 30, it's now or never for the former fourth-round pick to deliver.

After a series of moves in free agency, including the acquisition of five former first-round picks. The Cowboys got a thumbs-up for their active participation this year, especially after remaining relatively quiet last season. While the team didn't make any major splashes and lost key veterans, they brought in several plug-and-play players and improved depth in key positions.

If there’s one position that has likely emerged as the top need for the Cowboys, it’s wide receiver. Dallas must find a complementary player to CeeDee Lamb. While big trades haven’t been common for the team lately, imagine the offensive potential if they were to execute a proposed trade for Dolphins’ star receiver Tyreek Hill, who has been one of the league's elite players since his time in Kansas City.

Trey Lance, currently still a free agent, hopes to receive an offer from another NFL team. However, suppose he doesn't join another roster. In that case, he may consider signing with the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders, who added the former first-round pick to its negotiating list, and a chance to get more playing time in the CFL if he goes that route.

One position that has suffered from injuries and departures in Dallas has been cornerback, where Trevon Diggs continues to recover from a knee injury that required surgery during last season. Furthermore, Dallas lost the reliable Jourdan Lewis in free agency, who signed with the Jaguars. The team traded for former Bills CB Kaiir Elam, who, as a former first-round pick, failed to live up to expectations in Buffalo and will look to get on track in Dallas. While the prime of free agency is in the rearview, names like Stephon Gilmore, a former Cowboy, and James Bradberry remain available to give Dallas needed veteran help in the secondary.

One key free agent signing made by Dallas was the return of veteran DE Dante Fowler Jr., who, following the 2023 season with the Cowboys, followed Dan Quinn to the Washington Commanders. After a career year in Washington, Fowler Jr. returns at the right time with Demarcus Lawrence now in Seattle. The veteran finished with 10.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 2024.

Adding Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams will provide backfield depth, but the Cowboys are in need of a long-term option to carry the rock. Headlined by Boise State standout RB Ashton Jeanty, Dallas has met with eight total running back prospects ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. Safe to say the front office has done its homework on players to carry the rock.

The NFL sent out its full rules report to all 32 teams. Among the new rules is the banishment of the "nose wipe" celebration, otherwise known as WR CeeDee Lamb's signature celebration. Now, the celebration has gone from signature to “violent gesture” and will result in a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. At least Lamb will have some time to come up with something new after he finds the end zone.

Dallas is in need of a quality No. 2 option opposite of All-Pro WR CeeDee Lamb. While some well-known players remain available in the open market, the front office may focus on a younger option.

To no surprise, Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty has attracted evaluators from all 32 teams. Jeanty had one of the most prolific seasons in CFB history, rushing for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns. The Unanimous All-American has been consistently mocked to the Cowboys at 12 in various mock drafts.
