I thought it would be a good idea to keep all of the rumors going around in one spot as the offseason starts to heat up.

Scott Neidermeyer of the New Jersey Devils has been said to want to play on the West Coast, with Phoenix a possibility. As one of the top defensemen in the game, he isn't going to come cheap. We certainly wouldnt be able to come even close to signing both him and Khabibulin, who a lot of Coyotes rumors are circulating around. My preference by far would be to sign Khabibulin over Neidermeyer, he is the only elite goalie out on the market and the Coyotes desperately need one. There has also been speculation surrounding the Coyotes and Modano and Amonte. We are already paying Amonte as part of the deal that sent him to Philly a while back, so if we could get him for a good price (like $1M, but I bet he might get a bit of a better deal elsewhere) we might as well try to get some use out of him. Modano has lost a step but still a solid, solid player, Phoenix should definately look into signing him if we cant sign Khabibulin.

Khabby is my #1 choice as a free agent pickup. We do need goaltending so my fall back is CuJo in case Nikki stays in Tampa Bay. As far as Mo and Amonte - NO and NO. Modano is good player but he doesnt have the wheels anymore and I do not want Amonte back. After signing the licks of Ricci and Nedved I would rather see us get some younger talent to fill in here and in SA

It's great to hear that some big names are interested in coming here, but where would the Coyotes put them? Even if there was cap space, if they took everyone that has expressed interest they would have 30 players on their roster. They could certainly trade some people away, but I was getting to like the roster they had put together before the lockout.

In my opinion, the Coyotes should spend what is left in their budget on a top tier goalie. After all, the player that makes the single biggest difference game to game is the goalie. Khabibulin would be my number one choice as well.

Welcome, Murf!

This season is going to be crazy. I don't think anybody knows how the standings will end up. It might be a good idea for a team to sign a bunch of these players, even if they don't necessarily make sense, then trade them towards the end of the year to teams that are looking for one or two guys to make a difference. Then you could get some good prospects in return.

Thanks! I was thinking the other day about the forum that the Coyotes used to run on their website, and figured there had to be some discussion out there somewhere. Afterall, I can't just refresh TSN's website over and over all day (while procrastinating). :D

But doesn't this automatically assume that the Coyotes will be trade deadline sellers, instead of buyers?

To get ice time and cap space for some new pickups, the Coyotes would probably have to trade away some of the good young players they have now. I'd rather they go with the players they have picked up so far and add a really talented goalie. I think with the addition of a great goalie, this team can win alot of games, with or without Modano/Amonte/others.

That is of course unless some big names are willing to do a Kariya-like salary reduction to play for the great one. ;) If they are coming here as a bargain, that is a different story.

Sure, but let's assume that they will be sellers because they are so good that they can afford to do it, not because they have no shot at the playoffs. :D

I agree - if Gretzky agrees to coach, they may be able to get some guys coming in as a bargain. That, and if some of these guys overstate their worth when free agency starts, they may be desperate when no one gives them a good offer.

It will be interesting for sure.

Taffe also given qualifying offer, no word on Boucher yet.

I like Taffe. I think people are dogging Boucher for a bad season ...the season ended when Tanabe went out, that was not Bouchers fault. (Yet Mara was left looking like a golden boy becuase of his assists. Hello, youre a defenseman you turtle!) Interesting to see how Brian plays (wherever) this season.
Ferrence always sucked.

Well, UFA season starts in roughly 12 hours. Strangely, everything has been very, very quiet in respect to rumors. I really havent heard much about any team, let alone the Coyotes. On the plus side, it looks almost certain that Khabibulin will be testing the free agent market.

Sergei Zubov just resigned with Dallas (3 year deal, $4M per year), which gives them much less flexibility to resign Modano. If we are unable to sign Khabibulin, Modano should be our #2 free agent target. Speaking of Khabibulin, Detroit is still speculated to make a serious run at signing him. However, Chicago most likely will not, as they qualified Thibault, one of their RFAs.

Detroit's the one team that I think could get in the way of Nik returning to Phoenix. That team's steeped in tradition, so if they're preparing to give him a big offer, it might take a bank breaker in order to get the deal done.

Yeah, but have you ever been to Detroit? I'd rather live in Russia! ;)

No arguements here.. I'd rather live in the Armpits of Hell than Detroit, however on a hockey perspective, it's second to none. Trust me, it's not called Hockeytown for nothing. That, in itself, is why I have cause for concern.

Khabibulin just signed in Chicago. The Blackhawks also gave a qualifying offer to Thibault if Im not mistaken, I wouldnt mind seeing us seek out a trade for him, depending on what the Blackhawks would ask.
